Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. For more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/.
Harper is a sweet 12 week old Husky mix puppy who has beautiful markings. She has an adorable black mask around her eyes and dark stripe of fur running down her back.
Harper is a playful, happy puppy who equally enjoys being with all the members of her foster family, including her foster fur brother. She shows respect for other dogs and is cautious at first. When her brother has her toys, she vocalizes to express her displeasure but doesn’t grab it away. She loves to follow him around and he is teaching her how to play chase and catch. Harper is making her way through those puppy biting phase and responds to corrections or better yet, a distraction.
Harper is a quick learner. She knows ‘come’ ‘sit’, ‘wait’, and ‘no’’. She will wait to eat her food until she hears ‘okay!’ and away she goes. Housetraining is coming along. She is learning to do her business outside. After a nap, eating or playing, it’s time to go outside. She will have accidents in the house if we are not paying attention. Harper is crate trained for naps during the day and for sleeping at night. She is usually quick to settle down, especially at bedtime. She sleeps through the night and is quiet until we wake her up. What a good girl! We will only consider homes for this pup where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. We are also looking for families that are fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate.
The world is full of new sights, sounds and smells for this wee girl from Northern Manitoba. She is quite timid and unsure of big and little sounds around the neighbourhood. She will require more exposure and support to be confident puppy. She is good on short car rides but longer rides upset her tummy. We are taking her on daily short car rides to help her get used to the motion. This will be important to continue so she can easily travel to lots of new places with her forever family.
Harper loves people! She loves to greet people on walks and will actually sit down and wait for people to catch up to say hello to her. She’s more timid with other dogs and is nervous when she hears a big or little bark. Puppy socialization classes will do this puppy a world of good. We will be expecting her adoptive family to attend puppy socialization class with her immediately upon adoption, along with, at minimum, level 1 obedience school. Because of her young age, we think Harper would quickly adapt to a home with other gentle pets including cats. She hasn’t seemed to notice the bird in the house at all. She won’t enjoy a large and rambunctious other dog at this point though.
Harper is becoming a good little walker. On hot days, we have been walking her early in the morning and later at night so she is not out in the hottest part of the day. She can get overheated quickly. She still prefers to make many stops to look around and take frequent rests in the shade. Her most focused walking always occurs when she knows we are heading home and away she goes!
Harper will need an active home with people who are knowledgeable about the Husky breed. She will require long daily walks and attention in order for her to be stimulated so she is not creating her own destructive entertainment. She can be sassy at times and will benefit from kind and clear leadership. She has liked all of the children she has met; but it should be considered that she will grow to be a strong dog. We would only consider a home for her with children over 8 years of age, if there are children at all. She will need a home that gives her lots of exercise, a well-fenced backyard, lots of attention and regular brushing.
We adore this puppy and will settle for nothing less than a dedicated, loving family that is well aware of her breed requirements and the needs of a puppy. We also are looking for a family, or person, that wants the dog she will grow to become, not just the little bundle of furry cuteness. If you have been thinking about adding a large breed puppy to your family and have the time and patience to properly raise a pup then she may just be perfect for you. If this sounds like you, Harper will provide you with lots of laughs, cuddles and love. This beautiful, friendly girl is ready for the love of her forever family. We know you will fall in love with her as deeply as we have when you meet Harper.
