My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oatmeal has been the light of our lives for the short while that we’ve had him. He’s a literal dream come true and would make a family that loves to hike, go on road trips, walk to cafes, and garden extremely happy. This bundle of joy is people and animal oriented. He’s definitely a shadow and is his happiest when hanging out with his humans--or any humans--and can’t wait to be your “little” spoon every night.

He’s energetic and playful, but also cherishes his long naps throughout the day. At the park his favorite pastimes include: wrestling, playing chase with his buddies at the dog park, and drinking everyone’s water. His recall has improved to about an 80% success rate (though never straying out of sight). Watching him play with other dogs will melt you away. He’s good at reading the play style of other pups and will readjust his play to suite his friends--he likes to rough-house with the dogs his size, but will be very gentle and roll on his back for the doggies that can’t quite compete with his 40-pound stature.

If you love the water, you’re in luck because Oatmeal's absolute favorite activity is anything involving water (though we’re working on bath-time as something that can also be enjoyable). Taking him to splash around in a creek and you’ll see a transformed pup on top of the world living his best life. Keep in mind he’s an active pup and needs about 3 hours of play time coupled with walks throughout the day. Once he gets that energy out, he is the cuddliest most well-behaved puppers in the world. He responds very well to training and is highly treat motivated. If he gets spooked by something outside and starts barking, it’s pretty easy to redirect his energy with a few “sits”, “downs”, “watch-me’s”.

Because he loves to cuddle and be with his humans, he would be best suited for someone that works from home or can bring him to the office or has a dog walker or doggy day care mid day..

Oatmeal will also require continued training as he is extremely smart and will benefit from the mental stimulation and challenge of learning new skills and tricks.

Trust me, this is the kind of dog you want to wake up to and fall asleep next to (we can’t wait for you to hear him snore and his baby dream howls that puff his cheeks up). Just you wait for the morning kisses and body wiggles when he learns you’re awake! If reading this has made your heart sing, then Oatmeal is the dog for you.

We are a foster based rescue and thus do not have a facility where all of our rescues are kept. Our foster based program allows for dogs a loving home environment similar to the one they will hopefully be adopted to. We have foster homes in multiple geographic areas. If you would like an adoption
application, EMAIL STORKWOODS@COMCAST.NET.
