My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet adorable Teddy Bear. This sweet curly-haired poodle mix is only 2-1/2 years old. Teddy Bear weighs 11 pounds. He is being fostered in Leesburg, FL.

UPDATED BIO 08/26/2019: Teddy had his big neuter surgery and is almost fully recovered. He is in good health and only 2-1/2 years old. The behavioral issues and anxiety that he had earlier for the most part have disappeared. Between the neuter and the anti-anxiety meds, Teddy is now a much happier and calmer dog. He is not getting any medication anymore and continues to do great. When Teddy Bear goes to his forever home, he will go with the anti-anxiety meds since it is possible he has some anxiety in new situations and may be a little slow to adjust and trust. He had a very hard time in the shelter and may still being reactive to any new situation. We think there were some stressful times in his life even before he ended up in the shelter. It is possible that the vet’s office will always be a place of anxiety for him, but that is true for many dogs.

Teddy seems to like the older dog in the home rather than the younger dog who is closer to his age. His foster parents can only attribute that to the fact that he loves people way more than he likes dogs. He loves to give his foster mom and dad kisses. He is happiest sitting with his people and having them pet him and give him lots of love and attention. He sleeps right near or against either his foster mom or dad. He is happiest when he is with his people and they are giving him attention. Teddy would be happiest in a home where he is the only dog. He would be okay with an older, quiet dog who doesn’t require him to be their friend since he wants his friends to have two legs rather than four.

Teddy Bear does fine in the car. He is a great eater and he sleeps nicely all night either in his foster parents’ bed, which he prefers, or in the puppy pen. He enjoys his walks too. He is a good walker and does fine on a leash. He may pull a little when he first starts on his walk because he is all excited, but he will settle right down and walk next to whomever is walking him. He also enjoys wandering around in his foster home’s fenced back yard. Either being walked, which he does love, or walking around the back yard, Teddy Bear is happy and does just fine.

It has been hard to know for sure if Teddy is completely housetrained. With 4 other dogs in his foster home his foster parents are never sure who had the accident on the floor and no one ever admits to it. He will, however, do his business outside when taken out. At only 2-1/2 years old, if he is not fully housetrained, he is a smart little fella and can learn.

Teddy’s beautiful curly hair is growing back in after his shave-down in the shelter, where he came in all matted and dirty. He is looking more and more like a little lamb. How cute is that? Teddy’s beautiful curly hair is growing back in after his shave down in the shelter, where he came in all matted and dirty. He is looking more and more like a little lamb. How cute is that? Teddy was fine getting a bath. He hasn’t had a full grooming yet since he came into United Yorkie Rescue shaved way down, but he has been bathed and was a good boy. His foster parents did discover that when the groomer was grooming the other dogs in his foster home, she did his ears since there was hair growing inside. He didn’t like it at all. He will probably need to be given some some calming or anti-anxiety to be groomed until he is comfortable with it. She only did his ears, but he may need a muzzle and meds until he understands he won’t be hurt. In his foster mom and dad’s opinion he’s still young enough that all this can be worked with and he will learn to calm down while be groomed. After the groomer was done with him, he ran to gave everyone kisses.
