My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This little Yorkie boy is Riley. He is 11 years old and weighs 9.4 pounds. Riley is being fostered in Odessa, FL.

UPDATED BIO 09/02/2019: Riley continues to do well in his foster home. Poor little fella went through quite an ordeal before he arrived in UYR. He was found wandering the streets, then spent some time at the shelter, and when his owner didn’t come for him, one of our wonderful foster moms did!

Riley walks nicely on the leash and stays right with foster mom. He is a smart boy and is house-trained. He does like to be taken outside often, so a forever home where there is at least one stay-at-one parent would be great. Riley has obviously not been exposed to toys, as he is skittish of them when foster mom tries to throw for him to fetch. He is also afraid of the broom and vacuum cleaner and will go in circles and bark at them. It is very possible that Riley was always an outside dog and not accustomed to normal things in a home.

Riley doesn’t appear to be a lap dog – yet. But he does love to lay on the couch beside his human. That may change as time goes by. Riley is very accepting of strangers and he is good with other small dogs. He does have immature bilateral cataracts, but he can see just fine and has no problems whatsoever getting around. It is normal for dogs of his age to have the beginning of cataracts and that is what Riley has. He is a very sweet boy who is so very deserving of a loving forever home.

UPDATED BIO 08/13/2019: Poor Riley has been through a lot before he arrived in UYR. He was found wandering the streets, then spent some time at the shelter, and when his owner didn’t come for him, he found his way to his UYR foster home.

Foster mom says that Riley is a very friendly and sweet boy and BONUS! He is house-trained, although he really enjoys his walks and walks nicely on a leash. So far he doesn’t like sitting in her lap, but that may change as time goes go, but he does enjoy lying on the couch with her and is warming up to her.

Riley has seen the vet and his bloodwork looks good, so he is a healthy little boy other than a cough and an occasional sneeze. He was put on antibiotics so this should clear up really soon. The cough and sneeze could likely be as a result of his nasty mouth that is full of bacteria and bad teeth, and it is likely it will resolve once he has his dental in a few weeks. Riley also has immature bilateral cataracts, but he can see just fine and has no problems getting around. It’s normal for dogs of his age to have the beginnings of cataracts and that is what Riley has. Please stay tuned to learn more about little Riley who is so very deserving of a loving and forever family of his own.
