Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Jiffy available for adoption through @Fur the Love of PAWS Rescue! ❤
HERE'S THE SCOOP 😻
On July 9th, Jiffy was found by Animal Control after they received a call of a cat north of town, with a peanut butter jar stuck on her head. They were able to locate the cat, who subsequently tried to run away. They were able to net her and take her to the vet, where the jar was removed. Her condition was so poor, the vet said she likely wouldn't have made it another night. She was dehydrated, malnourished, full of fleas and had a wound filled with maggots. She was given basic vetting and returned to the shelter, and that's where I found her and fell in love.
Animal control had named her Jiffy. We pulled little Jiffy for rescue, so she could get the continuing care she would need to get well, overcome and thrive.
On July 12th, Jiffy arrived at our vet (we had to wait to legally adopt her) and began her brand new journey with us.
Jiffy looked absolutely horrendous. Her skin was burning up, bright fire red and itchy from where the jar had dug into her neck. She had a large wound on the front of her neck and lots of little cuts on her nose. Her ears were hairless, but that was likely due to sunburn in the hot sun prior. You could literally see the ring around her neck from the lid of the jar and you could see the discoloration on the inside of her legs and feet where she spent days, or more, frantically trying to get the jar off. How hungry she must have been to want peanut butter. 😭
How exhausted she must have been towards the end, the jar so tight we don't know how she could even breathe. It's just heart wrenching to even think about. 💔
Jiffy was still pretty dehydrated and was malnourished, even days after her initial rescue. She inhaled her food and we had to offer her just a little at a time because of that. She was just plumb exhausted and even today, , August 1st, is still regaining strength. Jiffy was not spayed and had likely had several litters, as she is 3-4 years old.
Now, Jiffy is spayed and fully vetted and is doing fabulous! After 3 weeks of a steroid, she has stopped digging at her never ending itchy skin and it is a light pink with hair beginning to grow in. Her scars are slowly healing over behind her ears, nose and neck and a beautiful skin and coat is beginning to emerge.
Jiffy no longer inhales her food and understands that it isn't going anywhere.
Jiffy now plays with us, where at first, she truly did nothing but eat, drink, potty, sleep.
Jiffy is slowly learning that life is OK again. I don't have any clue what she has been through in life. I don't. But I know that she's terrified of the outdoors, through a window. She has little to no confidence in herself, outside of her Suite. She is learning day by day that she is safe and will be OK from here on out, a realization that doesn't happen over night, as many of us with trauma can relate to.
Recovery, takes time. And I know she will find a forever family who will give her that, and everything else she's ever dreamed of.
FAMILY GOALS 👪🏡
▪️Jiffy girl is sweet as can be. She is very shy at first but has done well adjusting and learning to love on all 15 of our volunteers. Once she feels safe, she loves to be loved. Loves to play and loves to be pet.
▪️Jiffy likes to play with toys, roundabouts and wands. She will play by herself and alone.
▪️Jiffy likes to be held. She has yet to lay on my lap, but in time she may. Currently she is a side sleeper.
▪️Because of what she's been through, Jiffy's full personality is still coming out. She really is just the sweetest little girl who wants to feel safe and loves, it's that simple.
🤸♀️ Jiffy is good with kids. Should be respectful and more mellow kiddos though, as she is shy and doesn't want to be chased around.
🐈 Jiffy is good with cats and a confident cat would likely benefit her in a home. She does like to play with other Kitties but gets overwhelmed if they are rough housers like our other residents. A laid back, confident, cat friendly cat would be purrfect for her.
🐕 Jiffy is good with dogs.
▪️Jiffy is litter trained and uses a large covered box made by Nature's Miracle and clumping non scented, dust free litter.
