Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Pepe is a 3-year-old neutered male black lab. Pepe weighs 47 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.
DESCRIPTION: Who’s the goodest boy? I am! I am! Pepe “No Pew” has only been with us for the last 3 days, but he is a wonderful guest. His favorite thing to do is just cuddle with you on the couch. Second favorite is working on a bone, but he will put it down in a moment if someone comes into the room.
Pepe doesn’t touch a thing that doesn’t belong to him and is housebroken to the max. He is crated for a couple hours a couple times a week to stay in practice, but there is really no reason to keep him crated- he would be a great buddy for someone who does work a full day since he can easily entertain himself. The most he barks is a single “Woof” to tell the crazy dogs to go play elsewhere. He is a couch potato who insists on sleeping with his babies, which he sometimes carries around. Pepe is gentle with treats and stretches out a meal until the next one. He is great in the car, just occasionally panting. Pepe is also well behaved on leash and is doing fine behind a 4’ fence.
Pepe just got his annual boosters and tests today- while we have only had him for a short time, he has been with Lab Rescue for almost a year. He had hip surgery for an old injury and needed time to recover and rehab, then he was adopted but found to be a little too cat-crazy, then adopted and we found out men worried him, so he went to live with one of our trainers and Pepe learned that men are a great source of love and companionship. He had no problem with his male trainer and didn’t bat an eye when he met his foster dad or the vet.
He does like to play with you and sometimes can get a little frisky if you wrestle or get him too excited playing with one of his toys, but a simple “Quiet”,”Chill” of “Settle” will get his attention.
MOST RECENT UPDATE: Pepe is a sweet boy who needs things to happen at slower pace. He prefers a calm lifestyle without a lot of chaos and people who will let him acclimate at his pace. Once he trusts you, his cuddly and loving. Pepe loves toys, walks, loves to go for rides. He would love nothing more than a couch and a human. Pepe is good with dogs but would be just as happy as an only pup and definitely does not enjoy bouncy, in your face type dogs. An adult, quieter home would be ideal for Pepe. The right patient person will get a super cool, fun companion in return!
UPDATE: Pepe likes the ladies:) He is super friendly, playful and fun around women and some men, but other men concern him. We are going to restrict his placement to a female-only home for now. He loves having people around and will go get his toys and start playing with his toys to show off. He interacts well with most dogs - female and smaller, older and non-alpha male dogs.
Pepe is a wonderful houseguest. He is house-trained and rarely barks (except at the evil garbage truck). He likes to fall asleep in his foster’s bed, then move to his own bed, then wake up FM with a jump and a smile. He is a funny guy:) His training is ongoing to alleviate mouthiness when he gets carried away during playtime, but he responds well to calm corrections. He loves sitting on the deck and watching the word go by. Once in awhile he will grab his toys to play in the sunshine, and he loves working to get a treat out of his kong! Pepe is very attentive to his human and always knows where his foster mom is located.
Pepe enjoys short walks and brief visits to a quiet dog park. He is great on the leash - he uses a harness, but rarely pulls unless a squirrel tempts him. He is continuing to gain strength in his injured leg, so no long runs or hard play with other dogs quite yet. Pepe is full of love and he is a fun dog! He looks forward to finding a forever home that will help him thrive, be patient while he continues to gain strength and teach him about all the fun to be had in the world!
UPDATE: Pepe is a real trooper, as he has been through a lot of change the past few months. He recovered from a muscle strain and is feeling super happy and playful. He is a little finicky about his playmates, but loves to play with most fellow four-legged friends. He walks well on leash although he loves to chase squirrels when he sees them! He will be a great match for an adopter that is ready to give him lots of love and get a bunch of love in return!
