August 5, 2019: Ellie May was found on the highway by the Bayard Police Dept. on July 8, 2018. She was brought to Animal Control and was not claimed or adopted. PDR works with Bayard Animal Control and we picked her up and drove her to our Sanctuary in Las Cruces on August 26, 2019.
September Update: Ellie May was spayed and it was a successful surgery and healing. She continues to learn her verbal and hand commands. The leash is still challenging because we do not know why she is afraid of and reluctant to it unfortunately. She retrieves ("get it") and drops the toy, etc. at your feet. and plays with her "pack" of rescued doggies. Ellie May knows her name and is very affectionate.
Ellie May is a smart, affectionate girl! She knows her voice and hand commands, is being leash trained (a challenge, ha ha) and is 75% house trained at this time. She has had her wellness vet check, her first round of puppy vaccinations and Grant County, NM license. She is scheduled to be spayed the end of August. The adopter(s) is/are responsible for all subsequent and required vaccinations, licenses and microchip.
Our adoption guidelines require a home/yard inspection, a fenced yard, no tether/chain or to be left outside unattended for a prolonged amount of time (i.e. while you are working) and without adequate shelter in case of inclement weather. Our dogs must have direct access to the adopter's home and be a loved member of the family. Our dogs are not raised or live with cats or children but are socialized and live with our other rescued doggies at Puppy Dog Ranch Rescue and Sanctuary. Educating and guiding children to be kind and gentle with a doggie is the responsibility of the household.
NOVEMBER UPDATE: Ellie May is growing healthy, was spayed the end of September, knows all her verbal and hand commands, and is affectionate and loving. IMPORTANT: Ellie would do best as either a single dog in an active retired household, with an adopter who has a home business or with one dog with positive calm energy, as she gets pretty fired up around smaller dogs when a lot is going on. She also shows signs of separation anxiety of which we're working on. Being surrounded by no or less dogs seems to help.
Once an application is received and we believe it to potentially be a "good fit", we courage a sleepover prior to adoption.
Ellie May is located at Puppy Dog Ranch in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Please call (575) 313-7232 for questions, an adoption application, or to schedule a visit. PDR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity and a no-kill, no cage rescue and sanctuary.
