Here's what the humans have to say about me:
If you are lucky enough to get acquainted with Charlie, you are thoroughly charmed. She is adorable, clever, and devoted to the people she loves. She has also done well in a daycare/group care environment – she gets along well with other dogs when properly introduced, and may even be able to live with cats.
Everyone who works with her agrees that she has tremendous potential.Unfortunately, it’s become clear that this potential would best be revealed in another home. Although Charlie’s owner has made incredible progress with her, the living environment is not suitable for her needs. Charlie would do best in a home with children 12+ yrs.
Charlie is an anxious girl, and can be nervous and insecure around new things. Out on walks, that can include strangers and other dogs, and she can be reactive if startled. With training and management, she can be lovely to walk – very engaged and with perfect loose leash manners! But she will never be a dog that thrives in an urban environment or will chill out in front of a coffee shop.
In a quiet neighbourhood with safe places to run, mental engagement, people and doggie friends who know and love her – that’s where we think she will thrive. Her ideal home will be someone who is familiar with positive reinforcement training and can help her with desensitization and confidence building. Someone who is active, knowledgeable about dog behaviour, and willing to invest time in training (maybe even in dog sports?) would be a gift!
If Charlie gets reactive, she can be noisy, but has no bite history and no history of guarding or redirecting. With people and dogs she knows (including children) she has never shown concerning behaviour. She is fully house-trained with no separation anxiety. What did we tell you? So much potential, right?
She is a five-year-old red heeler cross and we left the best part for last. She's stunning!
A reasonable adoption fee will be applied, which will be used to pre-pay for a training session in the adopter’s area.
