My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Georgia came into our program as an owner surrender through no fault of her own. This sweet 2 yr black female with natural ears and a docked tail is discovering there is more to life than being crated. Georgia is living her best life now, learning about everything the world has to offer! She is an absolute cuddle-bug in the home, is the epitome of Velcro, and has assimilated seamlessly into her foster family. She has deemed it her mission to provide kisses to her humans: no matter where her people go, she walks quietly alongside observing their every move and intermittently providing a gentle reminder with her little wet nose that she has your back in exchange for eye contact or a quick pet. Her signature move is to lie on her back with all 4 legs going crazy as she gets belly rubs and....she's a smiler! She will flash her pearly whites when she gets excited about the possibility of playing, eating, or snuggling. This girls exudes happiness and goodness.
Georgia learns skills amazingly quick. Her desire to please her humans overrides her desire to be naughty. Within the space of 3 days, she went from helping herself to her food bowl on the counter to sitting quietly until the food bowl is placed in front of her and she is given the "ok". She also can figure out puzzles, she's a thinker! Descriptive words used by her foster parents: gentle, sweet, quiet, thoughtful, sensitive, and sprightly, with the most expressive eyes ever. She has impeccable house manners, has no need to be crated, and takes treats delicately from human fingers.Georgia has been introduced to toys and LOVES them, especially the soft fluffy ones that can be easily disemboweled; we have found Kongs and balls are a more practical choice. RIP stuffed pink bunny. This brings us to one of Georgia's most inherent traits, the girl has a prey drive! She loses her mind in the company of squirrels so she is going to need a physically fenced yard to keep her safe and if walked in a squirrel filled neighborhood, may need some counter-conditioning. Cats are seen through her eyes simply as meatier squirrels and would not be safe in her company.

Georgia walks well on a Gentle Leader, with the exception of the aforementioned squirrel obsession, has learned to play bow, and is eager to take in new situations. She is quietly confident when placed in strange or unknown conditions but with any new dog, it will be prudent for her new owner to create a bond with her before placing her in situations that might overwhelm or frighten her although we have't found an occasion that has rattled this balanced young lady yet! Even though she is 2 years old physically, she has lived a rather sheltered life before coming to us. We know she will excel in her positive-reward based training class that is required as part of our adoption protocol. Georgia does tend to be a bit reactive when meeting new dogs on leash which is not unusual. Her new home is going to be provided the gift of seeing her grow and experience the world in a beguiling blossoming of playful energy and movement.
