Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Basil is approximately 2 years old. He weighs 14.5 lbs, and is up to date with Heartguard and Frontline. He looks mostly like a long-haired Dachshund but we think he might have some Papillon in him because his legs are longer than a typical Dachshund and his ears have the Papillon look. Whatever his is, he is obviously adorable!
Basil spent most of the first two years of his life chained outside in Tennessee. He was eventually brought to a shelter and was adopted by people who live in Maine. His Maine family decided to give him up after three months because he is very nervous around small children and will give warning snaps when he is uncomfortable with the way he is being handled. (He has
NEVER actually connected with anyone's skin!)
Basil is initially very timid with people but will bond with someone he trusts within a few days. He seems to be a one-person kind of dog and prefers to be picked up and held only by certain people. He likes to be petted on his own terms and will let you know when he wants you and when he doesn’t. Though he’s a bit independent, he will also sweetly follow his person around the house like a shadow. He is very loyal. Basil plays well with another dog that he currently lives with and happily runs around the yard playing chase.
A perfect home for Basil will have a fenced-in yard since he won’t let a stranger put a leash on him until he’s decided you are a safe person. His guardian will need to be patient and let Basil warm up at his own pace. Only homes without children are a good match! Basil has not been cat tested.
