Here's what the humans have to say about me:
6/4/20 - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!
Adoption Fee: $200
Fostered in Mandeville, Louisiana
Age: 9 years
Weight: 10.5 lbs.
9/19/19 - I can’t lie, I've been through alot, and I have the battle scars to prove it. But through it all, I never lost my faith in people. I've lived through rainstorms (abuse), just recently caught site of the rainbow (rescued and brought to YHR) and am waiting for the pot of gold at the end (a nice family to call my own).
I was turned into a shelter and they claimed that I was found stray. You tell me how a senior dog ends up on the street with no one to care for him. I wasn’t neutered and was exhibiting some behavior that definitely needed a vet’s attention. The lowdown on my medical history since being with YHR is that I have a low-grade heart murmur and I take a medicine called Vetmedin. It’s 5mg 2 times per day. I was also diagnosed with having seizures, so for that I take Keppra, 500 mg 3 times daily and Phenobarbital, 16.2 mg, 2 times daily. All of this seems to have me in check thank goodness. I know I let ya’ll know in previous posts that when I saw the neurologist, he did find evidence that I previously had multiple strokes that have healed. This is the reason that I walk in a circle to the right at times. Whew, enough of the bad news.
In my foster home, I do not interact with any of the other pups but will bully them out of my way when it is feeding time. Let’s not forget that in addition to all I had wrong with me when I came here, I was horribly emaciated as well. Foster mom says that I am very friendly but have bonded more with her since she is the one taking the most care of me. I have no interest in playing with toys.
I do well with my potty habits if someone is around to let me out, but if you leave, I do use my potty pads. There are mistakes as well, but I am an older gentleman and sometimes forget where to go. I walk well on a leash. I do like sitting on the sofa with my humans. I especially love taking a nap in your lap.
I’m not a huge barker. But when the other pups in the home get upset about something, I sometimes chime in with them. I'm not a fan of bad weather, but with my human by my side, I'm ok.
I’m very well behaved and foster mom says that I am extremely intelligent. I pick up on routines and schedules quickly. I have a very sweet personality. I have a sensitive little tummy, so I eat Digestion Care and High Energy Intestinal Care food.
I will soon be getting my teeth cleaned, (9/24), and then I should be done with seeing the dogtor for a while.
This about sums me up. I hope I didn’t scare you away. I pray that there is someone out there wanting a great little guy to love and give a home to just as much as I want to love someone. I am very dedicated to my people and even though I might not be the ideal adoption pup, I promise that you will not be disappointed with me if you give me a chance.
If you want a young pup to chase balls and play and act crazy, I’m not your guy. But, if you want a seasoned, well-adjusting guy that will look at you like you were the only person in the world. A dog that will appreciate everything that is done for it, then you are the one I have been waiting for my whole life. It’s been a long road, but I’m here now and ready to join you.
8/16/19 - Avery's foster mom has to bring him back to MedVet in Mandeville first thing this morning. He had a seizure this morning and she rushed him to the hospital. They are monitoring him today and getting his seizure medicine dosage leveled. He is doing better now, but had a rough morning with the seizure and then the after effects of it. The estimate for today is $500, but he will probably not go home until later this afternoon.
8/13/19 - We have received the results from the neurologist. The good news is that it is not a tumor which was one of the things the neurologist was afraid of. They did find evidence of multiple microhemorrhages (strokes) that have healed. He suspects this may have been at least 6 months to years ago. Due to this prognosis, the bad news is that Avery will at times still circle to the right.
He feels that he fly biting episodes are seizures and has prescribed Keppra to see if this is something that we can gain control of.
All in all, it isn't the grim outcome we were expecting, so we are pleased to say the least. Avery is a sweet little guy that deserves the best.
Once we learn more about his personality, likes, dislikes and future needs, we will update his bio.
7/29/19 - Avery was surrendered to a shelter and they called us because he was exhibiting some neurological issues (circling and head tilting to the right). We aren't sure what they are caused from and have a neurological consult for Wednesday, 7/31/19 so we can get some more information on what testing will be needed to find out if anything is wrong with this baby. Please say a prayer for Avery that it is something that is easily fixable.
