My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tiger Blood is a gentle giant. At his last vet appointment he weighed in at 17 pounds. He was originally thought to be a feral cat and was trapped-neutered-returned (TNR) by his caretaker. After living on his caretaker’s porch (he had ample shelter and food) for two years, one day he decided he trusted people and was friendly towards his caretaker and her family. He has since become an indoor cat and has been to the veterinarian for appropriate vaccinations, parasite treatment, testing and a full examination. Now that he lives with his foster mom, we have learned Tiger Blood loves to purr, have his belly rubbed, look out the windows at the birds, sleep with his foster mom every night and of course eat really well. He is a passive cat and does not instigate any fights and gets along with his foster siblings. We are unsure of how he is with dogs.

When Tiger Blood was tested for FIV and FeLV, he tested positive for FIV and negative for FeLV. FIV-positive cats can live normal lives both in quality and duration and FIV-positive and FIV-negative cats can live together safely.

FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread by using the same litter boxes, with mutual grooming, food and water bowls or when snuggling and playing. The virus can be spread by penetrating bite wounds typically associated with unneutered tom cats. A neutered cat in a home is extremely unlikely to infect other cats, if properly introduced. FIV-positive cats should be kept as healthy as possible feeding them a high quality diet. As with all cats, they should be kept indoors and free from stress. Adopting an FIV+ cat is virtually the same as adopting any other cat. They are affectionate, beautiful, funny, playful, and special in their own unique ways.

Tiger Blood is neutered, current on his vaccinations and FeLV negative, but FIV positive. His estimated date of birth is Spring 2010.
