My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AVAILABLE IN THE MIDWEST AND NEW ENGLAND REGIONS…..Bowie!!!

He, he will be king. And you, you will be… Bowie’s personal walk provider!!! Yep, that’s right! This one is going to rule the roost! At 2 years old, Bowie is a young boy and has a lot left to learn. Sadly, he may have more to learn than most two year old dogs. Bowie is a sweet boy who came to us, along with eight other dogs, from a horrible backyard breeder. Although he may not look like the picturesque labradoodle, Bowie is actually a flat coat labradoodle, on the smaller side of 35 pounds. Kenneled in a small pen with his littermates, Bowie never knew human touch, a warm bed, a clean water bowl, or even grass to frolic in. When arriving to his foster’s house, he was a shell of the dog he is today! Bowie arrived, matted in feces and urine, terrified of his new surroundings. After a bath and a LOT of patience, he started exploring his foster home and new fur sibling. It didn’t take long in his foster home before his new mom realized something wasn’t right during the nights. Bowie had been having seizures in his crate (and likely his entire life with the breeder). A few trips to the vet, a very affordable prescription, and some pills disguised in tasty treats later, he is no longer having seizures and his epilepsy is very much under control.

Bowie loves other dogs. He is a social guy and feeds off of the pack mentality. Although he loves to play bow and chase in the yard, he is not overly playful and concerned with wrestling or chewing on his foster sibling. Bowie is very laid back while in the house and just wants to be a chilled out sidekick! However, the minute he sees his leash and harness, it is GAME ON! This boy loves to go for walks!

While Bowie has made amazing strides in his foster home, it is important that whomever adopts him understands his history, and what the rest of his progress will look like. Bowie is currently in a home with two toddlers, of whom he is absolutely terrified. He loves women and warms up very quickly to them, however, it has taken him much longer to adapt to his foster dad. He will thrive in an environment with no small children, a single female, a female couple, or a male/female couple with very laid back, calm demeanors. Bowie is mostly house trained but still has some accidents when he is scared. He will need to go to a home with at least one other dog, although it is less important that the dog is playful and more important that it is a good leader for him. Bowie is also great with cats! Most importantly, Bowie’s furever family must understand where he has come from and that it will continue to take time for him to adjust to his new life. If you are willing to be patient with Bowie and give him his furever home, you can be heroes, but NOT for just one day!

Bowie is neutered, up to date on shots, kept on monthly preventatives, and microchipped. He receives zonisamide to manage his epilepsy and has shown no signs of the disease since starting his prescription.
