Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tonka is a beautiful purebred Jingo rescued from an LA shelter. He is currently living in Washington D.C. but his current owner who adopted him from us needs to rehome him due to a changed living situation. Tonka needs an experienced owner who can bring him with them to work or who is home most of the time because he has separation anxiety. Tonka is approximately 7 (adopted in spring 2014 and they thought he was about 2). He is about 50lbs (I think 51 at last weigh in), up to date on shots/vacs and is currently on 20mg of Fluoxetine daily for separation anxiety.
He's reluctant of new people, but as long as you're respectful of his space and give him time to warm up to you, he will be super loyal and will always want to be within eyesight of you. He's not very cuddly, but he's always lay right by where ever you are.
Tonka is really more like a cat - he's independent, smart, and likes to pet himself on you rather than let you pet him (he doesn't like to be pet overhand unless he's comfortable with you). He loves to be outside and walks well on a leash; he's had martingale collars the entire time I've had him (except when I first got him and we used a slip leash). He knows all the basic commands: sit, shake, high five, etc, and is house trained to the point where if it's pouring outside and he doesn't want to go out he'll hold it all day just to avoid going in the house.
He has had a few seizures over the course of the last 1.5 years, but the vet said it wasn't worth medicating him for because not only the cost, but the stress on him of having to go back to the vet every two months or so for blood work. But needless to say he doesn't do well at the vet and typically requires sedatives either prior or while he's there.
Tonka is an escape artist - he can open doors, unlock deadbolts, and doesn't like to be in closed off spaces or small rooms. This ties back to the Fluoxetine, but we've been in a house with a yard for the last three years that he's been on it so it's possible he would be better now.
If you happen to be the type of miracle that Tonka needs please reach out to us! We are currently fundraising for Tonka to go to a dog behavioralist Steffen Baldwin at Save Them Dogs Dog Training Ranch so he can work on his separation anxiety.
