Here's what the humans have to say about me:
A note was left when a family of four Chihuahuas was abandoned. It said: “I am moving out of state today, and cannot take the dogs. I tried to find good homes, but with short notice it was hard. Please take care of them. They are great dogs.” Scooter is the youngest of the pack and could possibly be a sibling of two of the older dogs. Friendly and full of life, Scooter will make some lucky owner a wonderful pet.
Chihuahuas are the only “natural” toy breed – other toy breeds have been bred through generations to be smaller dogs. Generally Chihuahuas are healthy and live a long life, with an average lifespan of 12-20 years. They are alert, observant and agile. Although Chihuahuas typically have one of the longest lifespans of any canine, trauma is the second leading cause of death. Causes of fatal trauma include being hit by a car, being accidentally stepped on, and falling from heights or being dropped. Because Scooter is so small, we are recommending he be adopted to an adult-only family since children cannot always understand tiny dogs must be treated with extra special care.
Although Scooter was abandoned with three other Chihuahuas he is available as a single dog adoption which is perfect for seniors or apartment dwellers. One of the toy breeds, Chihuahuas also do not require a big yard or long walks every day to keep them engaged and happy. Chihuahuas are “breed snobs” and do enjoy living with other Chihuahuas. They like to cuddle up when cold, keep each other company and watch out for each other. Scooter gets along with the rest of his family - Gizmo, Daisy and Charlie - and other small dogs as well. Although not required, we do recommend considering adopting two of the dogs that were abandoned together or adding Scooter to a home with another small dog.
