My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ocean is a 2-year-old neutered male black lab. Ocean weighs 69 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

DESCRIPTION:Ocean has the most beautiful smile, eyes, and personality. This young boy had a rough start and ended up at a crowded shelter. He will need a family who will take him to training and exercise him on a regular basis, as well as love him. He is always happy to see you and to meet other dogs. We don’t know how Ocean is with cats.

UPDATE: Ocean has been with his foster for a week and settled in very nicely. Ocean is a big, happy dog and enjoys life. He has a large, block head, shiny black fur, large smile and deep, clear brown eyes. He is a very handsome looking dog! In the beginning, Ocean was a little timid and reserved; however, he is now much more confident and relaxed. When someone originally left the room without him, he would whine and pace back and forth between the doors and windows looking for the person. Although he now settles very quickly, he still does whine a little when he is left behind. He gets very excited and cries when his people return after leaving him for a few hours. In the beginning, Ocean was crated at night and when we left alone. He has had ZERO accidents in the house, and is no longer crated. So far, he makes it all night and for at least six hours during the day without a break.

Ocean enjoys the freedom of the fenced in backyard. He happily bounds from one end of the yard to other with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. He does not pay any attention to balls and frisbees being thrown to his foster sister. He is quick to check out the neighbors or any dogs being walked on the street. When given the chance, he does try to escape through open gates and doors. When he did escape, he came back immediately when called! Ocean already knows several commands and gladly does them for treats. He will sit with just a hand gesture (i.e., no words), lays down, shakes, comes when called and stays (albeit for a very brief time).

Ocean gets along very well with the foster’s dog, who generally ignores other dogs. Ocean does like to steal her ball but when she doesn’t react, he lets her have it back. Like most dogs, when the other dog gets attention, he also needs attention. They are both willing to lay side-by-side getting belly rubs. I have caught them playfully gnawing on each other, which is a major accomplishment for his foster sister.

Ocean would do best with people who are active and willing to provide him exercise. He should be fine with or without another dog. His foster does not have cates, but but believe he will fine with a dog savvy cat. Ocean is a great foster and will make some family very happy.
