My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Breed: Bullmastiff/Borzoi mix
DOB: 2014
Sex: Spayed female
Weight: 110 pounds

Bambi is quite the character.  She was quite shy her first day in foster but then she became very comfortable and now sometimes even tries to hug her foster mom.  She was not crate trained but is very treat motivated so we would throw treats in her crate and she would dance around the front of the crate and put her head in and out, trying to figure out how to get the treats out of there.  After a few sessions of this, she would run into the crate and eat her treats and then lay right down.  Now she runs into the crate waiting for treats -- or sometimes stands partly in waiting for the treats to be thrown in.  But once in her crate, Bambi goes right to sleep and never makes a sound.  She does need to be crated when no one is home as she hasn't learned yet that counters hold things that she is not allowed to steal -- silverware, boxes, dishes are all fair game as far as she is concerned.

Bambi loves other medium to large dogs and will play well with them.  Chasing each other around the yard or playing tug with a a toy.  But she is not to be trusted with the small dogs.  She thinks of them as prey.  We are not sure how she would be around cats as she has never met one.

We do require a physical fenced yard for Bambi's new home as she is not to be trusted off leash and she needs to exercise by running around.  She is a large dog -- more mastiff-like body than borzoi -- and she is very strong so if you want to walk her on a leash, you will need to have more strength than she has!

If you are looking for a fun and affectionate dog, Bambi says she could be the one!  You will need to be patient with her though because she was not socialized well when a younger dog and she is fearful of new people and situations.   Given some time, she will bond to a new owner and it will be very rewarding.
