My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Louis is an owner surrender The man took him to an animal control to be euthanized.

Go figure, this guy has sit, down, come, is house trained, but he just wants to be home. Nothing wrong with that.

They had taken him to the beach and got ticked off because he spent 5 days in his crate.

Again, Go Figure. Let me say, the older I get the better I like dogs, need I say more?

Give Louis a chance, he just wants his own family again. And has done nothing to deserve being homeless.

UPDATE 2020-09-10 Sometimes the entire world just lets a dog down. This has happened to Louie. The first years of his life were spent with a man who beat him for any infraction. A dog who had not been trained, just can't figure out the human world and get it right.

This happened to Louie. One day he was in the kitchen with his people, and they dropped a piece of meat on the floor. Louie snatched it, and when the man came after him he ran. Louie went to his safe place with that piece of meat in his chomps, his crate. When the man got there he not only had a broom in his hand, he was yelling and screaming at Louie who was now trapped.

The man reached in and pulled Louie out of his crate by his collar and started beating him over that piece of meat. Today was different for Louie, he finally fought back and bit the man.

Standing up for himself cost him his home. That very day he was delivered to animal control to be euthanized.

Lucky for Louie an interim angel appeared who saw that this wasn't right and as soon as Louie could be removed from that place pulled him and placed him with Belly Rubs Basset Rescue.

Louie suffers from PTSD due to his original home life.
* You can't grab his collar, or force him to do something he will go on defense
and chomp your hand.
* He takes a while to learn to trust new humans.
* He guards his food. However, he loved our Tilly Twinkle Toes and allowed her
to eat out of his bowl with him, plus take naps and sleep with him.
* He will fight another dog over a toy if the dog tries to take it away from him.
However, it is only a lot of noise and action, no harm.

On the Plus Side:
* Louie has a high degree of obedience training donated by GreenePets Foster
Network volunteers,
* Louie LOVES training!
* Louie LOVES car rides.
* Louie LOVES long walks on a long-line.
* Louie LOVES his crate and will go to it if feeling overwhelmed.
* Louie LOVES to love people and gives kisses at every opportunity.
* Louie seeks distance if he is becoming overwhelmed in a situation.
* Louie LOVES to get the zoomies and run circles around you to get you to play.
* Louie deserves a chance with a person, hopefully, a woman who is lonely and
would love to have a forever loving companion.
* Louie gets along with all dogs, cares nothing about chickens, rabbits, or cats.

Original Post:
Have a penchant for the old west and Western novels that take you there? Our Louis L'Amour will bring you that warm home-style feeling just being around him.

Louis lost his home, and he is really lucky that he did. He doesn't understand it, but there is never any reason for a man to beat a dog, and this is what Louis had been living with until he finally stood up for himself and growled at the dude who still didn't stop till he bit him. This resulted in him being dumped at animal control to be euthanized. This is and was totally uncalled for. He is a good boy and was in a situation where he was pushed into survival mode.

Louis is currently in training to learn that life doesn't have to be like what was. He is sweet, lovable, plays with balls, fetches, sits, downs, and comes when called.

We just don't understand it!

Louis does guard his food bowl and toys.  There were young boys in his former home, this is not the ideal situation for a dog to grow up in when you have the type of father figure Louis had to endure.  I can't help but wonder how these boys and their mother have to live with this man in the home.

The ideal home for Louis would be a single or couple who are quiet, no kids, and love long walks.  Given the opportunity in a fenced back yard, Louis will do zoomies around you with joy.

Give this boy a chance.
