6/24/09 - Good morning. As promised, I went to the dogtor yesterday and have been told that my luxating patellas are Grade 2 and surgery was not recommended at this time. My teeth did have quite a bit of tartar on them, so foster mom is scheduling a dental for me because she said that healthy gums and teeth are very important. I’ll take her word for it. I’m up to date on everything else, so once my teeth are sparkling, I’ll be ready to join you for my birthday party (remember, I’ll be 4 years old on 7/7).
Guess What! I have a birthday coming up soon (July 7th - I will be 4 then) and I know it might be too much to ask, but I would like a new family as a birthday present. And, if I can be a little choosy (which foster mom said I can), I would like one very different from my last one. You see, my last family gave me to the local kill shelter because “they said” my potty training wasn’t going very well. Well, I’ve only had 1 poopy accident since entering my foster home, so I think they were just looking for an excuse to make themselves feel better about giving me up. Not that I won’t and didn’t have accidents, but I don’t think that is a reason to give a family member away. Guess I wasn’t a true family member. Which brings me to my demands. I would like a nice mommy and daddy that wouldn’t mind me sleeping in the bed with them, and since I can climb over an x-pen or babygate, I would probably just either need free roam of the house when you are away, or be in a bathroom with puppy pads until you know I am totally trained.
My previous people’s idea of “handling the situation” was to board me at the vet’s office 3 days a week so they didn’t have to deal with me. Can you imagine living at least 12 days out of a month at the vet’s office. I made some really good friends there, but they weren’t family. This brings me to my next condition. If you ever have to go away, or go on vacation, I’d like to go with you or have a family member (of my choice) watch me. I’ve spent my fair share of time being boarded and don’t care to ever be boarded again.
I love to be cuddled and held, but am not so submissive that you can roll me on my back for belly rubs. I would be great with another pupster around my age to play with, but we need to make sure that he or she isn’t too alpha, because I’m used to being the only pet and won’t take any crap from a grouchy one that thinks their poop doesn’t stink. Got one of those in my foster home right now and we aren’t seeing eye to eye on everything. Like the humans, she thinks they are all hers and I wish for them to be all mine.
I’m very quick and limber and can jump from the floor to the sofa in one silent leap, so if you are up for playing chase in your fenced in backyard, I’m just letting you know now that you can’t catch me (if I don’t want you to). I haven’t got used to playing with the doggy toys that my foster parents have all around here, but I’m sure I’ll be tearing the stuffing out of them in no time.
I’m going to the vet 6/23/09, but foster mom says that from reading my previous vet records, I have Medial Luxating Patellas in both back legs. This where the knee caps slip out of their socket to the inside and then back into place again. I don’t know what grade mine are quite yet, but I’m sure the vet will let me know today if it is a problem or not. I personally feel great. This is probably from me jumping up and down on things, so I should probably be picked up or learn to use puppy stairs.
I’m a really sweet young man that wishes to be spoiled since the first 4 years of my life weren’t quite what I expected or deserved.
