My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
I am Darla!

How old are you?
Maybe 6

Are you a boy or a girl?
Girl

Do you know where your family came from (Breed question)?
My foster mom thinks I’m a pit bull/ mastiff, I'm a big girl, with just as big a heart!

How much do you weigh?
75 pounds (I’ve gotten a bit too chunky so I'm on a diet)

What do you look like? I’m a adorable hunky girl. I have a dark brindle coat, broad shoulders, big brown eyes, and a big ol' smile

What do you like to eat?
A mix of grain free and non-grain free dog food.

What kind of personality do you have?
I am a pretty lazy girl. I like to lay in my crate, and lay next to my foster mom. Maybe take a stroll around the neighborhood. I’m a happy girl and like to politely meet people.

Describe your perfect day?
Binge watching the latest murder mystery on Hulu with a forever best friend. Maybe take a break to lay in the sun. Food and treats.

What is your favorite toy?
I have a chew bone i like to chew. I’d rather snuggle.

Do you know any tricks?
Looking absolutely adorable at all times. I am learning to sit, and I am learn boundaries, for example- I don’t cross through the open kitchen door unless my foster mom gives me the go ahead.

What scares you?
Not a huge fan of the vacuum but otherwise take things in stride.

Have you ever been around children?
I have had no problems with children of all ages when my mom takes me on walks. I really like the kids in our neighborhood. Even though I’m a big girl I am slow and careful.

How do you feel about other dogs?
I don't mind other dogs, I can take or leave them. I spend a lot of time with my foster brother (a small excuse of a dog) he's fine but I don’t have unsupervised time with him or other dogs.

Do you like cats?
Maybe too much, I would do best in a home without cats.

If you could be anywhere in the world where would it be?
In the air conditioning, being lazy, knowing I have a furever home

How is your health?
The vet has given me a bill of good health.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
My foster mom, her small resident dog, and a cat (mom keeps us separated since I’m very interested in him). Foster mom is the best. She gives me lots of snuggles and love.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
I am alone quite a bit when mom is at work. I stay in the kitchen area of the home (mom has it sectioned off for me, and I sleep in my crate /kennel 99% of that time.

Where do you sleep?
In my crate/kennel.

Do you like walking on a leash?
The people who had me before didn’t teach me any leash manners. Foster mom is working on training me to walk at heel but I’m a bit of a tug boat. I do like going for walks but I’m also happy just sleeping all day.

Do you have any not so great habits?
I’m still working on getting better at all the good dog habits of sit, wait, stay, etc. I am very willing just need consistency.

Are you house trained?
Yes! I’ve never had a accident even when foster mom has a long work day.

Do you like water?
I don’t mind getting hosed down for a bath or playing in the kiddie pool but I don’t think I would be a good swimmer.

What do you love about your foster family?
Snuggles, food, and love.

What was your life like before being brought into NorCal Bully Breed Rescue?
I ended up in the shelter on death row but the shelter staff fought for me because they saw how sweet I was and then NBBR came to rescue me! Now I’m ready for a family of my own.

**********************************************************************

NorCal Bully Breed Rescue (NBBR) is a foster based rescue with foster homes spread throughout the Sacramento area. We require our adopters to be within a 50 mile radius of us.
This is because we need to do a physical yard check to guarantee that the potential adopter's yard is safe and secure, and also have them be close enough should any behavioral issues arise, and the assistance of our trainer is needed.
(*FaceTime or Skype are NOT acceptable methods of communication regarding yard checks.)

We HAVE made exceptions for dogs that have been with us long term, and for senior dogs. We would still need to perform a yard check, and would be happy to do so for a dog that has been passed over repeatedly, but not for dogs that are in high demand.

That said, it must be a neighboring state to California. NOT across the country. That would be too much. (*We will NOT be making this exception for puppies or designer breed dogs, so please don’t ask. It’s way too much for us to have to request time off of work and lose pay to drive a dog out of area when we have plenty of great homes in our area wanting to adopt these dogs.)

We try our best to match our dogs to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks.

Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular dog.

Our adoption fees are based on the dog and typically range from $200-$500. In the case of senior dogs (6+ years), fees will be waived to the right home. This includes spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and deworming (if necessary). In the case of designer breed dogs, like French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs, the adoption fee will be significantly higher in order to offset the costs associated with their surgeries, or associated with their demand.

Darla's ADOPTION DONATION IS $200.

Interested in meeting this dog or another one of our available dogs? Simply complete and submit our adoption application on our website norcalbullybreedrescue.com (FROM YOUR HOME COMPUTER, not cell phones, yet! We’re working on that!!) and we will respond to you within 3-5 days. Once a yard check is completed and you’ve passed the adoption process, you’re welcome to meet any of our dogs!!!

Thanks so much for your interest, and we hope we are able to match you up with your next family member!!! Looking forward to your application!!!
