Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Pebbles is a very special little dog. She is the daughter of Dolly, one of the other dogs here at Cedar Farm. While Dolly is very outgoing and not at all shy, her daughter, Pebbles, is just the opposite. She is a beautiful little dog that desperately wants to be friends with you but is too scared to do so. When she first came here, I would sit in the yard with her and remain very still. She would range back and forth in front of me, about 3 feet away, as I spoke very calmly to her. Back and forth and getting a little closer each time. All the while I did not move. Finally she got close enough to give my hand a little lick and then she would go back out to the three foot range and start it all over again. It was heartbreaking. But I knew that she wanted to get the love and attention that I wanted to give her. I told a few people about how she behaved and they would always ask, “Do you think she was abused?” Yes, I do. But not in the way that you might think. Her abuse was the Abuse of Neglect. Her owner, who surrendered her to the Davie County pound, was the only human she knew. I am fairly certain that she was not held, or played with, or interacted with at all.
Humans can be a terrifying thing to a small dog. Think of it like this. Imagine that a creature that you had no knowledge of, that was taller than a three story house and weighed over a half a ton, came up to you. It towered over you and then reached down towards you. I don’t know about you, but that would certainly scare me! So we have been working on getting her to trust us. When I do pick her up, she will sit there in my lap and not move. She will eventually relax and sit there but she won’t come up to me on her own… yet.
She LOVES to play with other dogs! So I am hoping to find a family, preferable without children who would inadvertently scare her, that has a dog for her to play with. She will feel more comfortable with another dog which should help with the trusting process. She plays with ALL the dogs here. Doesn’t matter if they are bigger than her or not. So… if you are a patient person, and you want to know the joy of helping this little dog give all its love to you, then I encourage you to fill out our adoption application at cedarfarmrescue.com and then give me a call to setup a time to meet her. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and crate trained. 78943
