Here's what the humans have to say about me:
When it comes to choosing a dog companion, many potential adopters don't realize how great older dogs are. They may sleep more and their hearing and/or eyesight may not be as keen as it used to be but the gratitude and instant unconditional love you get from an older rescued dog is immeasurable by the clock or the calendar. Millie May with her big beautiful trusting eyes that will capture your heart, black tipped ears and soft cream non-shedding coat is a senior citizen, born 04/26/2009. Too old you say?!! No dog is ever too old to give you unlimited trust and love, to anticipate your footfall and welcome you home with wagging tail, to quietly sit by your side and listen to your words of wisdom or just companionably enjoy your favorite book or TV show. A big girl (by Shih Tzu standards) weighing in at 20 pounds, not fat, just stocky, and every ounce filled with tender tranquility. Housetrained (but will need time to adjust to your schedule); walks well on leash and responds when called. Although comfortable in a crate, she prefers her soft snuggly bed, special blanket, and delightfully odd toy of straggly yarn and little yarn balls. Sweet gentle Millie May is friendly and affectionate, a mellow, relaxed, older Shih Tzu who has given love and devotion all her life and wants nothing more than to be with you. A perfect companion for an older person or couple; Millie May does not have the patience needed to deal with children, but a dog and/or cat buddy would be welcome. Millie May is looking for simple accommodations, a quiet home, regular meals, a daily walk around the block, an occasional car ride, a warm sun spot for napping (pillow optional), a lap to snuggle in and loving arms to hold her and let her know she is home once again. The average life expectancy of the Shih Tzu is 14-16 years; every minute will be filled with shared joy and devotion and you will have the pleasure of knowing you made this peaceful loving companion’s golden years truly golden. Old age is not a disease, or a reason to give up. It is a stage of life that brings its own changes. Autumn can be a beautiful time of harvest. And .... sometimes .... the harvest is love. Arthritis and dry eye (old age issues) but otherwise healthy, Millie May is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and she has had a complete physical. Her adoption fee is $300. Millie May is eligible for our $100.00 Senior-to-Senior discount adoption fee.
