Rex has been receiving professional training and has progressed significantly
The below is from the person who knows Rex the best, Melanie:
Rex is such a lover! He loves giving kisses and getting all the attention. He’s a loyal companion and prefers to be by your side. He’s great with cats but needs to be the only dog in the house. Loves treats and has never had any food aggression.
Unfortunately Rex was previously abused. He has a fear of people, especially strangers, and will sometimes pee himself out of fear. This happens sometimes when you ask him if he wants to go outside or the simple command “come.” He has made lots of progress with this since we’ve had him however it still happens once in awhile so I want to make sure that’s noted.
He doesn’t know how to play with toys and doesn’t play well with other dogs. He may be ok meeting new dogs at the park and what not but he prefers to be the only dog in the house. He has been very aggressive toward our other dog in the house.
**I would stress this idea as this is one of the main reasons we’re finding him a new home.
He has major anxiety. This anxiety causes him to constantly spin in circles and chase his tail. This happens over and over and over and he has a hard time stopping. This is triggered by anything really- when you get up from the couch, when he’s excited for a walk or food, when he hears people talking, etc. I have faith the right training and lots of patience can help this behavior.
As I mentioned he’s afraid of new people. He will bark and growl when new people come into the house and although he’s never bit anyone it can be scary for the person. He has done this a few times to our children as well so for that reason we try to keep him away from them.
**This is the other main concern I would stress to a potential new owner. He is most comfortable with adults and in a low-key environment as I believe a home with lots of people and kids is too much on his anxiety.
Overall Rex has the ability to be a great dog. He has made lots of progress during his time with us but definitely has more room for improvement. We are sad that we weren’t able to make it work for him and know he deserves better. Time and patience will be key for Rex and I know there’s someone out there that can give that to him. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or there’s anything I can help with. I want to make sure he goes to the best home.
