Here's what the humans have to say about me:
***RARA IS LOOKING FOR HER FUREVER HOME***
Age: 1 year
Breed: Border collie mix
Weight: 10 kg
Color: Black
Spayed female
Rara is a medium to medium-high energy dog with some anxiety. She likes attention and wants to sit in your lap all the time. She loves to play and will play with anyone. She does play a little rough so any dog siblings have to be able to put up with that. For example she likes to grab Suerte (same size as her) by her scruff and try to pull her around. But her and another foster double her size seem equally matched when they play.
She doesn’t bother cats and we don’t know how she would be with kids as there are no children in the foster home. Perhaps respectful older children that would play 'fetch" with her would be very good for her...
Rara has gone through a lot in her short life. As still a puppy herself, she was found on the streets of Costa Rica with puppies... Malnourished, with a nasty skin condition and barely any hair left on her body. She was being such an amazing mom though. All her puppy were adopted as quickly as they reached the age they could leave their mom's 'nest'. Although Rara was shown to many prospective families, she was refused and passed by every time.
Due to what could be many reasons, Rara suffers from anxiety. It mainly shows as barking a lot. She barks at birds chirping, cars far away on the street, sounds of far away hammering/drilling/chain sawing, and a bunch of mysterious things neither the foster mom nor the other dogs hear/smell/see. Rarely do the other dogs bark with her. She also barks at strangers during the walks. Her foster mom thinks however, that once she is home with a family, one-on-one attention and a dwelling with solid walls where you can barely hear the outside world she would calm down.
Exercise helps to relax her, the more the better. She would be a great walking/jogging/hiking/running buddy. She also likes to swim, but does not like to walk in the rain. She’s a smart girl and would excel in agility classes. When she’s happy/excited she likes to “bounce” up (around one meter/three feet) in the air.
As you see it, clearly Rara needs an active family that will help her to channel her energy. However it needs to be someone knowledgeable that will know how to do that, as not to cause more hyperactivity and thus anxiety. The ultimate dream for her would be someone active with experience or plans to learn about agility where she can use her body and her mind.
Rara will be flying in from Costa Rica to Toronto mid July.
She is spayed and vaccinated.
Her adoption fee is $450.
Please share her story and help us find her the right home.
