Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Loki, a 11ish year old 5 pound male being fostered in Madison, WI
09/21 Pupdate Loki went to our local vet after his time at the UW Wisconsin Vet Hospital. They observed him for a day and did a blood test to see if there was something from his seizure that would show up in his blood to help discover what happened. The good news is that his blood work is just the same as it was in June of this year when he was found! His BUN levels remain elevated, but they are stable - almost exactly the same as it was before. Because Loki was not eating well, they gave him medicine to help him feel hungry. He was sent home with 4 more doses of the same medication to ensure he continues to eat. The really great news is that he has not needed any more doses of the medication! He is eating 3-4 times a day and actually prefers Kibble most of the time!! He was sent home with an RX food (high energy) that he does like to have during the day too. He has gained weight!! I will take him in next week to get a weight check on him and to see if he will be medically ready to find a family of his own.
I'm very excited for Loki! If you are interested in adding Loki to your family please start filling out applications. Once he is released, I will be looking at all applications then.
Loki's age is not known, but we suspect he is between 11 and 13 years old. Loki is not house trained and does well with a belly band. If he is taken outside, he will go to the bathroom. For this reason, Loki will need a family with someone that his home during the day so he can continue his house training. Loki will want to be with his person all the time. He cannot hear very well and has cataracts. It is thought that the episode Loki had last week was a single event and not expected to happen again. Loki does have RX food that he eats in addition to the kibble. Loki is one of the sweetest dogs I have every had! So many people have failed him before coming to rescue - he deserves the best home possible to live out his senior years. Could it be with you?
Loki has really improved! What a difference time makes! Loki is gaining weight. He is still a very picky eater, but we are finding things he will eat. He loves yogurt, sweet potatoes, cottage cheese and eggs along with food that I’ve been making for him. Loki’s night terrors have stopped. He no longer wakes up shaking and looking around remembering things that happened to him. Loki is quite a snuggler now! He wants to be with his person as much as possible. Even with everything that has happened to him, he remains a very sweet dog. Loki will be going back to the vet next week to have a check up to see how much weight he has put on and see whether or not he will be cleared to be adopted out. Thank you for caring about Loki and all the contributions and well wishes that have been sent for him.
Day 1: UYR got an urgent call from the local Humane Society about a small yorkie male who was in desperate need of rescue. He went from the shelter directly to the vet where he was assessed. We learned that he is severely underweight (he was a 3/9), has skin and hair problems, an infection in his ear, cataracts, moderate matting of his coat, grossly overgrown nails, and a severely infected mouth and is deaf. In addition to these issues, Loki came in with a 1.5 x 1.5 inch open infected area on his left shoulder. It was also discovered that he had a severe bruise on his left front leg.
Loki was found running down a country road and was picked up by local law enforcement who delivered him to the Humane Society. It was suspected that he would not have lived much longer without help. The area he was in is known for frequent sightings of coyote. We are so thankful that he was able to look for help before something bad happened.
When we got back from the vet, Loki was given a bath and had the matts cut out. The water was almost black! We spent some time in the back yard where he followed me everywhere! He is such a sweet loving little guy. During the night, he kept waking up crying every hour or so. I reassured him each time that I was still there.
Day 2: Today was a big day for Loki. He was first for surgery. They monitored his heart rate and rhythm and oxygen level to ensure he was tolerating being under anesthesia. They took x-rays and discovered that his mouth was worse than they originally thought. Loki had 18 teeth pulled due to the severe infection that was there. He was left with only a few teeth. They gave him a lot of pain meds to help him with the pain. They were also able to remove the ruptured cyst and stitch it closed. He was pretty out of it when I picked him up late in the day.
Day 3: Loki did not move much during the night. He has not had anything to eat or drink since his first day here. I called the vet because I had concerns about dehydration and his struggle with waking up. It was decided that Loki needed to go back to the vet to be given fluids and a tube to get some nourishment into him. They are watching him to ensure he begins to turn the corner. Loki will be picked up later today. The medical bills for Loki are already significant. If you are able to help this little survivor, that would be much appreciated. He is such a sweet little boy who has been through so much already. Thank you!
