My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

'I am Frodo, and I am Timmie's brother and am also a 1 year old. I am smart, happy and energetic but like Timmie; I need some quiet time too, as I haven't had a lot of exposure to new places or things. I am a fast learner so adopt me and we will have so much fun together!'
Frodo is incredibly sweet, and though initially the shyer of the 2, warms up and is sweetly & gently happy to see you, get pets and give soft kisses. Frodo often takes Timmie's lead, and would do great with a companion dog who can help him naturally learn & build confidence. A tenderhearted & submissive boy, he is eager to please and responds well to commands.

Frodo is neutered, de-wormed, micro-chipped, is current on vaccinations, on monthly heart worm preventative, crate-trained and house-trained. This rescue does not administer it's own vaccination shots. All of our rescued dogs' medical care has been administered by a licensed Veterinarian. All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., pro-biotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition. BACKGROUND: Timmie and Frodo are lab mix brothers who spent the first months of their young lives on the street. They were brought into a high kill facility, where they were placed behind a Plexiglas screen together in one small area for adoption. It was hard to get to meet them as they were joyously spilling out of their tiny area and barking in delight at the people looking to adopt. Since they couldn't be brought out as easily as the dogs that were housed one to an area, they were passed over time after time. Months passed and they were growing up at the pound. Still they waited for a family to come and adopt them, good natured as always but cramped in that tiny area and outgrowing that space rapidly. Without an adopter or rescue showing interest, both furkids were placed on the euthanasia list, even though they were only about seven months old. They were saved at the last minute with a number of people rooting for them. They had all of their vaccinations and were then retested for heartworms. At some point they were exposed to the outside elements without heartworm protection and tested light positive for heartworms. They have undergone heartworm treatment (3 shot 'fast-kill' protocol) successfully and have been neutered. They were given a Proheart shot which is good for six months. They are crate trained (however, both much prefer being outside of the crate), and will usually bark to let you know that they would like to go out. Timmie is sometimes more outgoing and usually is the leader, with Frodo being slightly less so and hanging back a little at times. Their barks sound like a small Chihuahua instead of a lab mix. Both boys learned the routine of the foster's household easily and were happiest when allowed outside to run and play together in the fenced in backyard. Both were hesitant to walk on a leash at first but are making good progress. They need a little time with new situations as they have grown up at the pound and exposure to anything new was very limited. Their reactions to new people are usually timid at first but quickly coming around to greet and accept petting. They like to try to stand up and 'hug' you as a demonstration of their affection. Both ride well in the car but are intelligent and understand that car rides can mean many things so Frodo usually has to encourage Timmie to jump down from the car. The boys love and support each other but could be adopted out separately. They bark at cats and would chase a running cat. They get along with other dogs and are very smart and love Purina Beggin' strips (small pieces were used to encourage returning to the crate). Both would do well in an active household that have had experience with dogs and that have older children (due to their energy level) and without cats.
