Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Jack, available for immediate adoption through Fur the Love of PAWS Rescue!
🤗 HERE'S THE SCOOP
A rescue friend of ours was sharing a picture of a poor Yellow Lab living in a kennel. He was diabetic and the owner didn't want to deal with it. Jack needed a new home so we took him into our rescue.
Our rescue friend went and picked him up and I met her halfway. We were getting him out of the back of her vehicle and he just kind of fell out. I got him home and went to get him out of the back of my pick up and I could see there was a problem - he was scared to get out. It didn't take long to figure out why.... Jack couldn't see. His eyes looked normal to me when I first met him, not your typical blind dog eyes look. He spent the weekend with me before a stop at our vet and off to his foster home.
Jack was pretty lost and scared and hung on to my every move. He figured out his surroundings quickly as blind dogs always do. The trip to the vet confirmed cataracts in both eyes; one eye he is completely blind in and the other eye has limited vision. This happens when diabetic dogs are not getting the treatment they need. We don't know how long he was diabetic for or how long he'd been blind. Don't even know if the owner knew.
After the vet he went to his foster home. It was a rough go for about two weeks. Imagine being taken away from the only home you knew now blind in a strange place. Jack was inconsolable and so upset. He wanted to be with his people at all times. Now, after about 3 weeks in his foster home he is a happy dog and has completely calmed down. We are looking for a very patient home because he will have to adjust all over again. Because he's nearly blind he can be a bit quirky. We are also looking for a home where he won't be left alone for long periods of time.
We are here for our dogs for life. Always and forever. When we find his approved home (we are hoping one that is one knowledgeable about diabetic dogs) we are here to help with insulin and his diabetic dog food.
🐈 Okay with cats.
🐕 Good with dogs, small and big. They just need to be dogs that couldn't care less about other dogs.
🏃🏼 Older kids.
▪️House trained and crate trained.
▪️Jack doesn't require a lot of exercise and he enjoys camping. He just wants someone to love him!
