Imagine living in a home one day, and then being abandoned, tied to a tree on a cold December afternoon the next. There was a note attached to the rope. All it said was “I can no longer care for my two dogs.” A good Samaritan found Lily and Lucy and brought them to our no-kill kennel for safekeeping.
It’s a sad story but almost unbelievable when you get to know this particular pair of dogs – they are that sweet! A volunteer who takes our dogs home for recovery after they are spayed or neutered said Lily and Lucy were the easiest dogs she has ever hosted at her home. A bit shy at first, they quickly accept love and attention from any person they meet.
Lucy, a Poodle mix, is the older dog and the brains of the operation; she’s the one that protects Lily and leads the way. She’s a focused walker that doesn’t pull at the leash and she fearlessly watches out for Lily always. A bit more outgoing, she is cautious but accepts most dogs her size or smaller easily.
Lily, a Cocker Spaniel mix, is younger and could possibly be Lily’s puppy. She’s the blonde bombshell with long, flowing fur, big dreamy eyes and beautiful cocker spaniel features. Lily doesn’t take life as seriously as Lucy – she has a bright, more effervescent and playful personality, and we believe she is the younger dog.
Both dogs have already been spayed, micro-chipped, are current on all necessary vaccines and are housebroken.
Lily and Lucy are a bonded pair and cannot be adopted one without the other. You might ask why, but spend even a little bit of time with them and you’ll understand. Lily will cry softly if she doesn’t see Lucy nearby, and Lucy never strays too far from Lily. They live together in one pen at the kennel and are cuddled up to each other constantly. Both would like nothing more than a permanent home with someone who can provide a warm lap, a good meal and lots of love forever.
We recommend you stop by AALOC during visiting hours to meet Lily and Lucy and get to know these very sweet girls a bit before submitting an adoption application. Please note that AALOC only adopts to individuals in Orange County and surrounding areas. Small dogs will not be adopted into homes with dog doors due to high level of coyote activity. The adoption fee is $150. Every dog is vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped.
