8/5/09 - Chance has finished his heartworm treatment and is doing very well!
7/8/09 - Lean on me, when you’re not strong, and I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on. Don’t you just love that song? I do, and I wish everyone could be more like that. I must have been rescued by someone who loved this song to. I was in a high-kill shelter fixing to be euthanized. I had mange (and it was the contagious kind), was not very good looking due to my loss of hair, wasn’t neutered and tested positive for heartworms. An angel saw my pitiful existence in a picture and set out to make sure that I would live. She decided my life was worth it when no one else did (even me) and had me pulled from the animal shelter and transported me to a vet to be treated for the mange. I am now mange free and feeling a lot less itchy. I will soon start heartworm treatment and when that is completed, I will be ready to move into my permanent home. Then, we can be friends and lean on each other when time’s get hard. Everyone deserves a Chance, let me be yours.
7/1/09 - You can see by his new pictures that Chance's skin is improving. He was shaved on half of his body due to the severe matting, and will be going to the groomer soon to get his hair evened out since he is no longer deemed contagious. He is being neutered tomorrow and in a couple of weeks he will begin heartworm treatment. He is a very sweet boy!
6/15/09 - Chance's skin scraping did verify sarcoptic mange and his treatment for that started today. His blood work was good... he was a little dehydrated but doing better. We also retested him for heartworms and he did test HW positive. He is really a very sweet baby. Once his skin starts to look a little better we will have to shave him down. He will be much more comfortable.
6/13/09 - Chance was found in a shelter in LA and was scheduled to be euthanized due to his unadoptability with his medical issues that presented. His story was posted on an internet forum with two other yorkies in the same shelter and a wonderful angel went to the shelter and adopted the other two; and promised Chance she was coming back to get him.
She did just that, just in the nick of time as he had one day left; and then drove quite a long distance to bring him to Yorkie Haven!
Chance has sarcoptic mange and also is heartworm positive. Poor little darling is so irritated from the mange and has open wounds all over his little body. He has been scratching and has his hair all matted. In spite of how he must feel, he really seems to be a very sweet boy.
