Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We had a message sent to us pleading for help for a female pregnant cat. We took one look at this cat and we knew what we were seeing. She was not pregnant. We knew we didn’t have much time to get her in. We had to get her help fast!
We rushed her into the vet the very next day. What we suspected was true. She had pyometra. She went into surgery 10 pounds. She came out of surgery 5 pounds. She had 5 pounds of infection in her uterus. We couldn’t believe she made it. She did! She made it through surgery with no complications. We were esstatic!
Her recovery was very painful for her. She was very sore and it took quite some time for her to recover. And recover she did! She was placed up for adoption hoping that she was going to get a home.
That’s when we thought she somehow got ringworm. We took her to the vet and that’s not what it was. We treated her for infection, but it came back. At that point we had to dig a lot deeper. We got her allergy tested and she was allergic to quite a few things. Both environmental as well as food.
We started by changing her food and giving her daily allergy injections to help desensitize her. We actually found a family willing to adopt her and take over her medical needs. We were so excited. Well, that didn’t work for long. The family said that she was not getting along with their current cat yet so they didn’t switch their current cats food. They also didn’t block it off from Melina saying that they weren’t going to share each other’s food. But they were. Melina was eating something that she was allergic to. She got sores again. The people returned her because they said it was too much for them. We had to start treatment over.
We decided to get her a second opinion at one of our favorite veterinary hospitals. They told us to stop the injections and start a medication called cyclosporine. Luckily it’s once daily medication and with watching her food intake she has been perfect! She is yet again ready for adoption. She’s ready for a family that she can love!
If you are willing to adopt her and continue her monthly medications, give her the food she is able to eat and limit her other allergens we would love to talk with you more! She is an extremely lovable cat that loves to lay on you while you’re watching TV. She very much enjoys spending time with her humans. She is cat selective. She would prefer a home where she is the one and only or only shares her home with one other cat. And if she does share her home with another cat she would appreciate it if you would feed the other cat what she’s allowed to eat. Melina cannot be with dogs because she is allergic to them.
This little lady has been through so much in her life. She just needs a family to take a chance on her! To give her the special needs that will keep her healthy. Is that family you? Are you willing to share your life with this lovely lady? She is waiting for YOU!
