Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Up for adoption in Texas: Pepper.
This gorgeous, awesome, friendly boy is ready to find a forever home.
Pepper is about two-years-old and weighs 60 lbs.
Lucky Lab saved Pepper after he was hit by a car. He went to just an amazing, incredible foster home and he helped Pepper through a couple of surgeries. Pepper's foster dad wrote this wonderful bio:
You will completely fall in love with Pepper as soon as you meet him. He was hit by a car in the summer of 2018, and has had multiple surgeries since, including an amputated rear leg and a steel plate on one of his front forearms. He is finally medically cleared for adoption after his last surgery in April 2018. If you are lucky enough to adopt him, you will get a happy, content, playful and affectionate young dog who is dying to carve himself into a loving family.
Pepper loves people. It doesn't matter your age or appearance, if you are human, he's cool with you. He loves hanging out with other dogs, especially at the park with leashes off!
He's not a great jogging partner, and probably never will be. But he gets around great on three legs, and will get better with time as his front arm gets stronger. He can't go as far as a regular dog on a walk, but he tries. In fact, if you've never seen a dog run on two legs, well, you're in for a treat. He's pretty amazing. He can negotiate a staircase, but cannot get into a car by himself yet.
Pepper has spent the last 10 months recuperating from a horrific accident, and he has made such an inspiring recovery. You won't find a sweeter, more loving, non-slobbery and easygoing companion anywhere.
He usually spends weekdays home alone with no separation anxiety, but is very happy when you're home. He loves to sit on your feet, and rest his head on your leg when you’re sitting. And when he's not doing that, he's perfectly content snoozing in the same room.
So far he's been good with cats, he's kind of indifferent unless they're sweet and accustomed to dogs, then he gets along. But he's not been aggressive to any.
Pepper loves to go to the dog park, and he readily greets all other dogs on leashed walks with friendliness and curiosity. He will leave dogs alone who show signs that they are not in the mood for company.
Pepper might do well with swim therapy and more physical rehab in the future.
Pepper has been in the frequent company of two younger teens, and they adore him. He's never met a human that he didn't like, and has not blinked an eye even when a human forgets protocol by skipping the offered hand to sniff, and goes straight for the head scratch.
He's been loved on by neighborhood younger children with no issues. But sometimes while being pet enthusiastically Pepper will hold onto your arm with his mouth, kind of in a play way. We'd recommend a home with older kids so just his love bites don't get interpreted the wrong way.
Pepper loves, loves, loves walks! Greets everyone/thing that is willing to greet him. He doesn't pull, but he does have a habit of getting in your way, especially when he comes to a dead stop right in front of you.
Pepper would be a wonderful companion for a couple or family with a non-exhausting lifestyle. He wants so very much to do all the things, especially the things that you do.
And if those things are long walks or hikes through the woods, frisbee, or fetch, he will wear out. He needs a less energetic lifestyle with more opportunity for shorter walks and trips to the park.
He loves going public places where leashed dogs are allowed, and he is a certified attention magnet! He really likes people, is super friendly, not aggressive to humans, and just wants to be a part of the pack. He doesn't need to be the life of the party. He won't wear you out. He's a very low-key dog, and full of love, and so sweet he'll make you blood pressure drop.
He really is a smart dog, and he'd be a quick study for whatever his new family would like to teach him.
Cutest behavior: Laying in his mini papasan chair, on his back, limbs akimbo, like someone assembled him wrong.
He waits patiently for food, gets excited for walks, and bonus, he's a tripod, he doesn’t counter surf.
Pepper is housebroken, good home alone, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready for his forever family.
