Here's what the humans have to say about me:
4-6 year old handsome, intelligent, resilient, playful, and loyal boy seeks
loving family experienced with guardian/herding breeds with their keen
intelligence and unique, special personalities.
They call me Aengus. In ancient Irish mythology, Aengus was the god of
love. Just like my namesake, I know a thing or two about love. Love of
family. Love of friends. Love of affection and attention. Love of playing ball!
There are so many things I LOVE - snuggles, road trips; swimming, playing
with my dog friends; walks and running (I walk easy on leash, never pull
and I'm an awesome running partner); playing in the snow; learning new
tricks, yummy snacks and treats; and so much more! I'm clean and well
mannered in the house.
I would really love a home with another dog to play with. A family of adults
or a family with calm, respectful older children or teens who will give me the
space and time I need to bond, feel safe and at ease. I’m used to being
pretty active (backpacking, camping...), and at first I wasn’t so sure about
living with my foster parents because they’re 61 and 72. Turns out things
have been great!. We go for walks, play chuck-it, and sometimes I go
swimming. And...I made a new best friend who’s a young 15 1/2 pound
miniature poodle. He’s a hoot and such a fun playmate! Their other dog is
also a little guy, who rules the roost. He’s older, and was also homeless for
a while. He’s older, and says I bug him because I’m too affectionate.
There is nothing I love more than my people, and I feel like it’s my job to
keep everyone safe. I have to say that in the past, I’ve been a bit too
protective. I'm a cattle dog/shepherd through and through after all, and my
instinct is to protect my pack. Sometimes I get anxious and feel threatened
when strangers get too close for comfort and don’t give me time to get to
know them. That might be because I’ve spent some time alone on the
streets, but being part of a family, and having a pal to play with has made
me feel more settled. Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement are
helping me feel more confident and secure.
Let's recap:
*Smart, easy to train and loves learning tricks (food & attention motivated,
eager to please)
*I’m super snuggly and affectionate
*Love walking or running. I don’t pull or weave (or stop every 5 feet to pee)
*Have GREAT recall
*Chill at home alone or with a dog buddy
*When we’re all off leash, I get along with dogs of all ages and sizes
* I’m agile in all kinds of terrain. If we go hiking or backpacking, I won't run
away, I’ll sleep soundly beside you in or out of a sleeping bag, and carry my
own gear.
* Very accepting of backpacks, coats, costumes, boots, etc.
* Easy to administer meds, look at paws, clean ears etc.
*Not easily bothered by loud noises like thunderstorms or fireworks
*Love road trips
*Once bonded with you, I’ll do anything you do ~ I’ve even been kayaking
and have my own life-vest!
That's my story. I'm waiting in foster care for my forever family to come find
me and bring me home. Someone to love and cherish me and continue my
training to help me be the best boy ever! Someone experienced with my
breed mix and particular quirks. I've come a long way with my training, and
want to continue learning and working on self improvement. I’m looking
forward to meeting you to start our life together.
If you are interested in meeting Aengus, please send us a message and we will forward it to his foster family. Thank you! Canine Miracle Rescue.
