Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sylvi (Sylvia)
4 years old
Female – fixed Pit Mix
Sylvi, original name Sylvia, is a lovely, sweet, special girl who adores people. Her foster parents think she has never met a person she doesn't like. She, like a lot of dogs, has had a rough start to her life. But a lot of people have gone to bat for this beautiful spirit. Turned in by her neighbors because she was left abandoned by her first family, tied up outside of their home to fend for herself, she ended up at the local shelter. Here, the staff fell in love with her and refused to euthanize when her time there expired. As a last resort, she was adopted by a kind soul who tried to integrate her into an already existing pack. It almost worked. She became friendly with one of the dogs, but definitely not one of the others. Fearing the worst, Sylvi was re-homed to another person who knew her. They moved to Kansas, where she failed to thrive. Humidity, the wrong diet, and an infection almost did her in, but her will to live was strong. Then, the city passed a breed ban and there was little time to get her out of Kansas before she would be euthanized. Making the long trip to get her, her now foster family brought her back to health. Her foster Mom and Dad LOVE her. She is funny, goofy, energetic, cuddly, and a joy to have in the home, except that, because of her choosiness, she doesn't get along well with the other pets in the home. Since there are already 3 dogs and 2 cats it makes life unfair to everyone. Sylvi deserves a loving home of her own. Would you be the person everyone, including Sylvi, has fought to keep her alive for?
Likes – Walks (she does well on leash), playing ball, running, rough housing - but will easily stop if you ask her to, sitting in the sun. Snuggling on the sofa.
Dislikes – grain-free food (she doesn't keep weight on), loud noises, yelling, meeting dogs on walks. She is fine to pass, but no face to face, and will alert to dogs who are, or appear to be off leash. We believe it is all fear based - she stands up for herself because no one else ever has (until now, and she steps down when someone stands up for her) and her ability to take flight was taken away for most of her life.
She is very dog choosy, so she needs to be an only dog just because we don't know her criteria.
She has been around cats, but if your cat swats at her, she may react. So no cats.
Uncertain about other animals.
She has lived in a house with an 8 year old and did well, but she is a bully breed, so she may bulldoze every so often.
She has not been possessive of anything. She does not guard her food (we don't leave food laying around), she does not guard her toys (you can remove items from her mouth).
