Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Thor really needs a special someone in his life. I don't know what his background is as he came to the shelter as a stray but it is obvious that he didn't have much love or care in his short life. He is a very gentle soul and needs someone who will give him a minute and once he sees that you are friendly, he is very sweet. He is a calm, quiet and gentle dog who someone to help build his confidence and show him what being a beloved pet is. The shelter listed him as a Boxer mix but I personally believe he is a Catahoula mix and the eyes alone would say I am right. He is smaller than most male Catahoulas weighing approximately 54 lbs. He is however underweight, making him look more shaped like a Boxer. Thor is approximately 3 years old.
Here is what Thor's foster family had to say about him:
Thor is a loving, low-maintenance pup that would do well in a quiet, relaxed home. He is healthy, but does need someone to spoil him and put some fat on his bones! His energy level is low to moderate - he is happy to sleep all day but loves to go out for a walk. Thor seems to be quite shy - although walking down the street he is interested in the people we walk by, if they show attention back to him he does back away and hide behind me. He doesn't seem to have a particular type that he's afraid of, I think he just takes time to warm up to anyone. I haven't seen him with children, but I don't think he should be placed in a home with high-energy children. He is very good with other dogs and seems to really like cats however if they run, he will chase them. A home with another dog that he could follow and take cues from and/or dog savvy cats would be great for him. I have two cats who like to steal his food and have zero respect for his space and he's never shown aggression toward them.
Around the house Thor likes to be with his person, and is happy with whatever you want to do whether that is lounging the day away or going out for a hike. He is a very quiet dog and I have only heard a semblance of a bark on a few occasions so he would do fine in an apartment. He doesn't chew or get into anything he shouldn't but I wouldn't go so far as to leave food on the counter and expect him not to help himself if given the chance. We are working on come and sit, and he's a fast learner, but it doesn't look like he's ever had anyone teach him basic commands before. When I leave the home he does jump up at the door for a minute but then goes and settles himself and is fine until I return. He did growl for a split second the first day I walked into my house after leaving him there for a bit, but he hasn't done this since - I don't have many visitors but I suspect he'll be protective of the home.
Thor is completely house trained and would have no issues holding himself for a full working day. I can totally trust to leave him alone, loose in the house without any worries, of course making sure to not leave any food on the counter etc. He does enjoy going for walks and is pretty good on the leash. He rarely pulls, but if he sees something to chase he will take off and he is very strong, so he does need someone that can handle him. Thor absolutely cannot be crated or gated. He becomes extremely anxious with this and will jump over, crawl under, or scratch through anything used to contain him away from his people. I do believe that he could cause himself serious harm with his anxiety + strength. As he is so good in the home he really doesn't need to be crated anyway. One main issue is that he can jump really high! I have standard ~7 ft wooden fences in my yard and he can get over it when motivated enough (chasing a bird or squirrel will do the trick). He doesn't bolt out the door when he's told not to, but as mentioned above he is a flight risk from the yard if he sees something to chase. He was quite anxious on our drive home when I first picked him up but of course this would probably chance once he got used to it.
Thor really needs someone to be his special person. Someone who won't baby him but instead be a confident and patient leader, allowing him to find himself and see that the world is not such a scary place. He is anxious at first but once he knows you are okay he is very loving. A quiet home would be best for him - either a single person or a couple. A home with loud kids would be anxiety-provoking for him I think. I think he would do okay with other dogs and cats. He doesn't demand much from me, and doesn't look at all distressed when I come home from work, so I think he'd be fine with being left home alone for work. He's also calm in the home so either an apartment or a house would be reasonable for him.
