My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ELLIE is a 5-year-old spayed female black lab. Ellie weighs 49 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

DESCRIPTION Ellie is a happy, bouncy, playful girl. Since Ellie is still an energetic young Lab, training and exercise will be good for her. (She learned the sit command fairly quickly, because she is smart and food-motivated.) Ellie is good with other dogs. (She was tested on lead with other dogs and did great.) Ellie will chase cats, so no cats for this girl. Ellie is approved for kids ages 10 and up. (She's been around younger kids, but with her energy, she may knock younger kids over.) Ellie was an owner surrender. Her owner decided that he didn't want her anymore and threatened to dump Ellie on the side of the road. So a few weeks ago, a family member of the owner took Ellie in temporarily to find her a home. The family member didn't have any luck finding Ellie a home and was going to have to take her to the shelter soon, so the family member asked Lab Rescue for help.

Update: Ellie is doing great at learning to live in a suburban world and she is getting used to other dogs and sounds that may be new to her. She has a beautiful, black coat with a little bit of white in her paws and around her face, with lovely, light brown eyes that will steal your heart. Ellie is house-trained and knows some basic commands like "sit". Check out the video above of her fetching and returning. She is food motivated and tries her hardest to follow commands for a reward, and she takes the treat very gently. Ellie will go in the crate with a treat incentive - she is crated for a few hours during the day while her fosters are at work and also at night. She has been playing with the two resident dogs and doing well. She walks well on a leash, but if a squirrel darts across her path she would love to chase it (then she settles back down). Ellie has been playing in a fenced yard and has plenty of energy. She loves all of the toys in our house and is really proud to share them with her human and or for a game of tug with the other dogs (see video https://youtu.be/pyDe-c3E9zU), she settles down and will try to lie with you on the couch or munch on a chew toys. Ellie's tail wags non-stop and she puts smiles on her foster's faces:) Ellie belongs in a home with patient people who will interact with her, work on her basic training, burn her energy off and, of course, love her!
