My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for Somebody to Love? Meet Freddie Mercury!
What is your name?
Hi, my name is Freddie!
How old are you?
I think I’m about 3 years old
What do you look like?
I’m a big dude with a big block head and beautiful brown eyes. I’m mostly light brown with some white around my feet and face. I’ve also got some gnarly scars on my back that my foster mom says give me character.
What do you like to eat?
OMG, FOOD IS MY FAVORITE! When I lived on the street I couldn’t find enough, but at my foster home we eat Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Salmon formula. I don’t know what salmon is, but it is delicious! I also try to eat my foster brother’s food sometimes. I could probably eat 24 hours a day if someone let me. My foster mom calls me the Hungry Hippo. I also love treats. All treats. Picky eater is not a term you would use to describe me.
What kind of personality do you have?
I’m a lover. My foster mom and brother would describe me as a very chill weirdo. I’m curious but cautious but love cuddles and pets. I’m also kind of a “goofy giant” and have been described as a bull in a china shop…I don’t think I’m that big…but I guess I might be. Every once in a while I get a case of the zoomies, but for the most part lounging on the couch is my favorite place to be. My foster mom also says I’m really smart and I would have to agree. She also calls me her snorty pig because I snort when I want something or when I get excited. I don’t know what a pig is, but she seems to think they’re cute so I’ll take it 
Describe your perfect day:
The perfect day always starts with a big bowl of FOOD! Then I love to go for a walk and smell all the smells of our neighborhood or at the park. My foster mom works from home a lot and I also love just hanging out on the front porch, keeping an eye on things. And a nap. At least one nap is a must for a perfect day.
What is your favorite toy?
I love these things called kongs, they have delicious stuff inside of them. And I also love chewing on my antler and Bully Sticks. Sometimes my foster brother even lets me finish his chewie treat when he’s done with them. I love that he shares with me. The other day my foster mom threw a “ball” in the backyard and it was fun to chase. It must be one of her favorite games because she kept going and retrieving it so she could throw it again while I watched.
Do you know any tricks?
My foster brother helped teach me some things. I can Sit, High Five and Lay Down. High Fives are my favorite. My foster mom is teaching me Stay, but sometimes I’m just so excited I don’t want to sit still.
What scares you?
I’m a cautious dog by nature, but am not really a scaredy cat. The only thing that really freaks me out is when my foster mom turns the lights down or off…I don’t really like the dark. She’s been really nice and leaves a soft light on for me at night so I don’t have to be scared. New people used to make me nervous, but I’ve learned that they usually have cuddles and treats and I’m all about that!
Do you have any doggie best friends?
I think my foster brother is a dog…(Foster Mom: he is, Lombardi is a 10# blind shih tzu). We hang out on the couch and I run circles around him in the backyard. Our favorite thing to do together is go for walks. He rides is a special stroller and I walk alongside him. I check in often to make sure he’s doing ok. Sometimes he gets a little grouchy when I try to lay with him on the couch, but I know he still loves me and I just politely give him his space.
If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Wherever there is a bowl of food! Or curled up on my side of the couch watching Netflix with my foster family.
How is your health?
I am in excellent health. When Even Chance first took me in, I was in rough shape. I was severely underweight and was beat up around my paw and back. Everything is all healed now and I’ve gained about 30# and am all good today!
Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I live with my foster mom, Meghan, and my foster brother Lombardi. Lombardi is kind of a lone wolf, so my best friend is my foster mom.
Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
I go in what my foster mom calls my “man cave.” At first I wasn’t so sure about it, but she put a very fluffy blanket in there and it’s so cozy, I could just sleep and sleep and sleep in there.
Where do you sleep?
I sleep in my man cave in the living room…with a light on. I think everyone else in the house sleeps upstairs but I haven’t been up there (I don’t like the wooden stairs) and am very happy to sleep in my crate. Also, my foster mom says I snore…loudly…she can hear me from all the way upstairs.
What do you love about your foster family?
I love love. My foster mom is always telling me I’m so handsome and giving me pets and cuddles. We play, and we explore and we just hang out. It’s so nice and relaxing to have a place to call home instead of having to find a place to sleep every night. I feel very secure and happy.
What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought
into the welcoming arms of your foster parents? I was found darting across traffic on Kingshighway. I was starving and skittish and afraid of almost everything. But my foster mom was very patient and slowly eased me into the good life.
Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home.
