Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Penny: 5-yr-old spayed female black Lab mix 38 pounds
Background: Good Samaritans in the central valley facilitated the rescue of this gal from a home where she was getting little attention, questionable medical care, and scant food. She allegedly lost her right front leg as a result of a car accident, and now maneuvers around quite well on three legs. Penny is significantly underweight.
What Penny’s Foster says: Penny is sweetness personified. Gentle and a little shy but blossoms when shown even the smallest amount of love. Likes to explore outside but doesn’t destroy anything. Doesn’t seem to know many commands, so a nice blank slate for training. She’s gained a little more pep in her step since she arrived. Has been shy but friendly on walks. Does not like her crate but will stay quiet once in there. She doesn’t have any interest in toys, and except for rolling around on the rugs, doesn’t seem to play — or I can’t figure out how to play with her – work in progress. Not that into rawhide or other chews.
What Penny’s Rescue Rep says: An indomitable spirit, Penny is engaging and affectionate. Her lack of one leg, doesn’t hold her back. Gets along fine with other dogs. No idea how she is with cats. Able to get up and down a few steps without issue.
Medical Information: Penny got a full-check up from our vet. She is in fine health… and is now current on Rabies and distemper vax. The vet determined that she is already spayed and confirmed that she is already microchipped. She is recovering from flea dermatitis and is missing one toe-nail. Still awaiting results of blood tests, etc. Penny needs to put on 6-8 pounds. PS. She charmed everyone at the vet’s.
Penny is located in: San Francisco.

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
