Here's what the humans have to say about me:
If you're searching for the sweetest and most fun-loving best friend ever....Freddy is the pup you want to have around! Freddy, at just about 10 months old and 29 lbs, is just naturally a lover ....when he looks at you with those dark, expressive eyes and sweet smile, your heart just has to melt. Freddy is a truly beautiful Wheaten Terrier/Tibetan Terrier mix with all the traits that make these very smart, fun-loving and personality-plus dogs very popular and beloved family members.
Freddy enjoys his time with his foster mom so much that he joins her just about everywhere she goes...it's so important to Freddy to be a true best friend! Once comfortable, Freddy loves his people more than anything and would definitely win a lap-dog award. Freddy cuddles close on the couch (or snuggling close on the bed all night is perfect!) with his beautiful head draped over his favorite person's leg...an occasional kiss from Freddy is inevitable. He's a sensitive and very sweet guy who derives so much joy from his time spent with his people and his doggy siblings.
Freddy is a young, healthy and very active guy who will love his family with all his heart. He's currently working on his leash skills while getting ready for long hikes in Colorado, snowshoeing in winter, agility (he'll be amazing!) and serious games of fetch or frisbee. Once Freddy's exercise needs have been met, he'll be the first to snuggle up on the couch for a night of cuddling.
Freddy would enjoy another playful and active dog to play like crazy with in a fenced yard... and then would love nothing more than to lie together in the sunshine enjoying a beautiful day. Freddy will also have so much fun exploring and taking long walks with his family. He is always open to new activities with a never-ending positive attitude...just say the word and up Freddy jumps for a car ride, a fun hike or just a sociable walk around the neighborhood.
After rescuing dogs for 15 years, we're very clear that training is vital to the bond that is so important to the success of a dog within a family. They are taught that their people are their leaders within the framework of positive reinforcement/force free group training classes. They come to learn behavioral skills that serve them when out in the world and are therefore invited anywhere well-behaved dogs are welcome.
It is for the above reasons that Farfel's isn't open to those that don't choose to attend level 1 group obedience classes at an approved positive reinforcement trainer. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of these approved trainers in your area.
Freddy's foster mom had the following to brag about this sweet guy:
Freddy is a stunning Wheaten/Tibetan mix with a beautiful face, stunning coat with gold and silver running through it and the prettiest and wisest eyes ever. He's about 10 months old, weighs 29 lbs and just gets more loving, smarter and more engaging every single day that he spends with me. I can tell he falls in love with me more and more as we work together to teach him his skills...and then it's all about treats and belly rubs!. So far he's succeeded in learning sit, stay, down and come commands. With just a bit of time and patience, it was so easy and fun to teach him!
Freddy was relinquished to a shelter because he's a very active and fun- loving guy who is ready to engage and play. His relinquishing family didn't choose to walk him, provide any mental stimulation or physical exercise. They had a vision of a fluffy 15 lb couch dog that would use pea-pads so it wouldn't be necessary to venture outside. The very best thing that ever happened was for Freddy to be relinquished!
Freddy is a super-smart, extremely affectionate and loving dog! I would love to see him in a home with a family. Freddy had been in foster care with a very active 10 year old (and his dog-crazy friends). They played frisbee, fetch and all kinds of hide and seek games. Freddy was ecstatic to be a part of the gang..and then they loved watching movies with Freddy plopped down right smack in the middle.
Very active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and kind dog would be great for Freddy. I'd hate to see Freddy left alone all day while his family works full-time as I think he's too sensitive and active for that. A family that's retired or works part time or from home would be a great solution. Freddy is such an amazing dog and with training, love and nurturing, he is just the right size and temperament to accompany his people just about anywhere.
Freddy appears to be a non-shedding or very lightly shedding pup (it's difficult to tell until his shelter-weary coat grows out. He will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (salmon oil is a great lifelong supplement) to keep his cottony-soft coat shining, very healthy and matt-free.
Freddy will be arriving on transport in Boulder in mid to late May (date will be updated once confirmed). Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.
PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Freddy, please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
