Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi my name is Bonya. I am actually from Kiev, Ukraine, that is why my name may seem a little funny. There aren't many resources or sterilization programs for homeless animals there, so there are lots of dogs left on the street to fend for themselves. I was found in a busy city center. My rescuers think my previous owner abandoned me there. I was walking around in the hot sun for days, maybe weeks. I am lucky I was not hit by a car or poisoned by a group of mean people who think dogs are a nuisance. They put poison inside yummy treats to try to trick hungry street dogs into eating them. I heard about these people they call "dog hunters", but so glad I never met one!
Many people walked by me, I kept hoping someone would stop and help me but nobody did. I was so scared, and hot and thirsty and did not know what I was going to do. Finally a nice lady found me. Even though I was not sick, she brought me to a veterinarian clinic to live in a cage because this was the only safe place for me to stay. She had to pay with her own money to keep me there and it was really hard for her- she did not know what she was going to do.
She kept trying to find me a home, but everyone wanted a little puppy. I lived in a cage inside a cold clinic for several months until Transform a Street Dog, an international dog rescue in America found out about me. They found an American family living in Kiev who agreed to let me live in their home for free! There were 2 kids and another dog and they were all very nice! I was really happy until they had to go on vacation and then they decided not to take me back when they returned. Then, right before winter, I went to live in a for-profit outdoor kennel out in the country. This time Transform a Street Dog sponsored my stay. I was happy to be safe but I was in an outdoor kennel by myself for the entire cold and snowy winter.
Then, I heard that Transform a Street Dog found another American family for me to live with in Kiev and they were talking about how they could get me to America! They thought it would be better to move me there because it is next to impossible to find homes for dogs over 1 years old who are mixed breeds like me in Ukraine. I never heard of America, but it sounded pretty exciting! So now I have been living in a home for about 2 months and my foster mom says I am doing great! I am crate trained, I get along with other dogs and even cats, but I am probably better with older children instead of very young ones. I lived with an 8 and 12 year old before and they were my best friends! Oh, and I even know a few tricks! I could show you if you wanted to come meet me!
So, I just found out, I have an airplane ticket to fly to San Francisco on May 31st! When I get to San Francisco I will be staying with another foster family. It is nice that all of these people have volunteered to give me temporary homes, but I really want to have a forever home that will love me forever and not abandon me or make move without them again.
If you are interested in me, would you please contact Transform a Street Dog and set up an appointment. For every dog that is adopted, they take another one off the street. Thank you!
