Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes...." That is what we sing to this sweet Chocolate 2 1/2 year old girl who has come a long way to Penny Lane from the pound in Nogales a little over a month ago. And she will work her way into your heart as quickly as she is introduced to your ears and eyes. Penny Lane came to our foster family a little rough around the edges. She had to learn where it was acceptable to go potty but almost immediately picked up on the social cues of being a house dog. She is now almost completely potty-trained because she loves to please. She had an initial issue with counter-surfing. But early one morning, she removed the bag of freshly homemade buns from the counter. She quickly realized this was likely a social "no-no", and she left the bag on the kitchen floor and went out the doggie door to put herself in time-out. Yes, she is endearing. Always.
Penny Lane is in our hearts. If you are looking for a totally refined lady, she is going to need some extra loving care. But if you don't mind investing in her, she will invest in you. She is a super-fast learner and will quickly learn where it's acceptable to go potty. We are working diligently on leash-training as she still gets a bit agitated when walking near passing cars. If you are prepared to fall in love with a soulful eyed, Chocolate girl and willing to be patient and willing to refine her social skills, she is the most affectionate curler who just loves being near her family, which includes people and her foster siblings (Kirby -- our 3 year old "foster failure" and Rudy---our 11 year old yellow female Lab). She quickly acclimated to the mealtime ritual of down-staying while we say grace before being released to eating with the other pups. Penny Lane just wants to be where you are. She is a kitchen dog when you cook; she is a lounge lizard when you watch t.v.; she loves her squeaky toys and just wants to run around and shake them (to entice others to play with her) but does not destroy them.
Penny Lane's tail wags all the time, and she is a most affectionate, happy, loving Lab who often responds better to human praise versus treat motivation, although she loves treats. She has demonstrated a bit of athletic prowess, and she can run quickly and jump high. The backyard should be vetted to ensure her safety.
She takes daily medication for Valley Fever, but is totally asymptomatic and takes her pills like a champ. She eats well but is quite svelte and slim. She sits and "down-stays" on command, even when we are out walking and will need continued work on walking well on a leash (we use a harness and a Martingale collar). Once she has gone for her daily walk, she is ready to hang out with you for the day! She loves all people she has met so far, although we don't know about young children or cats. Penny Lane will be in your ears, your eyes, your heart....are you ready to have this sweet Chocolate girl be in your family for a loving life?
