Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Carmella is an amazing, sweet 7-8 year old, 5 lb chihuahua looking for her forever home. She gets along with the other dogs and has taken a motherly role on with one of her special needs foster brothers. Carmella is quiet in the home, she is crate trained and does great with potty training. She will use pee pads in a pinch, but she does great about going potty outside when taken out on a routine. She loves giving kisses to her person and cuddling on the couch.
Carmella was an owner surrender to a rural shelter and it appears that although she was very loved she was not provided the medical care she needed. Her mouth had a lot of infection, which cause deterioration of her jaw. As a result she lost her teeth and her jaw is very weak. She should not be allowed to eat anything hard to try and avoid any further damage or breaking of her jaw. She is currently eating canned food and should not be allowed kibble or any hard toys, treats, or bones. Her rear kneecap was permanently out of place, so we ended up doing surgery on her knee to repair it. She is still not using it, but with time and with the help of some exercises to help rehab her knee we hope that she will begin to use it more and more each day. Additionally, during her spay they sadly found a mummified fetus inside of her. We knew she had at least one litter, but it looks like one of the puppies died before delivery and was left inside of her.
Due to Carmella's mobility and jaw issues, we think she would do best in an all adult home or possibly one with older children. Carmella's adoption donation of $275 helps cover the cost of her medical care.
