Looking at this handsome boy, it’s hard to picture how tough his early life was. Abandoned, wandering as a stray, half-starved and nearly hairless from fleas and mange, he was not a pretty sight when he wound up in a kill shelter. But a local rescuer looked into his eyes, saw the wonderful boy inside, and took him home and nursed him back to health.
Huey is a little more than one year old now, and has reached his full size of 26 lbs. He may fill out just a bit more as he continues to regain his health, but he will always be on the small size.
Huey is a sweet-natured, gentle little guy, whose difficult early life has made him a bit slow to trust. He is rather shy when he first meets you, but then he remembers that he really does love human attention. He gets along with smaller dogs with proper introduction, but bigger dogs scare him. A few kind words and little soft tummy rub and he’s ready to open up and make friends. Then he thinks that lap time and love are just the best things around! Huey does not like to be left alone for long periods of time, so a household where either a work from home, retired or opposite shift Mom and Dad would be best.
Huey is not yet crate trained, but is making progress with his house training and leash walking. Huey will need time to acclimate to a new home, so an accident or two could happen. But he wants to please and tries very hard. With kind, patient guidance, he will learn what you are asking for, and do his best for you. This sweet boy really has what it takes to be a perfect friend, if someone will only show him how.
Little Huey has been neutered, is up to date on all his vaccinations and is ready to go to his forever home.
The fee for adoption is $450. This includes spay/neuter, vaccinations and transport fees.
