Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ginger is around 6 years old and is currently in a foster home. She was adopted from us a couple years ago but returned after her adopter felt she could not longer care for Ginger. This disruption was very sad for Ginger but she has settled nicely in her foster home. Ginger is a super sweet girl who needs an active home who will play with her and appreciate her playfulness and zest for life. She is extremely loving and really bonds with her people. Ginger has been through obedience training and has really learned a lot and needs a family who will continue to help her practice her manners. She does well when left alone in the house and is used to having a dog door to the back yard. She really enjoys snuggling on the couch and spending time with people. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, crate trained, house trained and microchipped.
Child appropriate? Ginger has liked all the kids she has met so far. She greets everyone very happily but can get a bit overexcited and will jump on children because she is excited to play. Older children that can play tug of war would be best as Ginger loves to tug!
Other dog appropriate? Sadly, Ginger did not get any socialization with other dogs once she was adopted and this lead to her having some challenges when meeting new dogs. She would do best as the only pet in the home.
Cat appropriate? Nope
How is she with strangers? She loves people and is friendly with everyone she has met. She wants attention from people. She is a sweet, loving girl with her humans.
What is her play style? With people she loves to play tug of war with a rope or toy that is big enough. That seems to be her favorite game and enjoys someone strong enough to give her a good, honest tug!
Does she like toys? She loves toys. She chews up stuffed toys and carries them around. She does not chew shoes or slippers. She likes sturdy balls and squeak toys.
Does she like water? Ginger seems to do ok with water but prefers to wade around vs. jump in. She has not had a kiddy pool so we aren't sure about those but she might enjoy one.
Does she like car rides? She loves riding in the car and sits nicely when riding. She pretty much just enjoys being with people so being in a car puts her right where she wants to be!
Exercise level needed? Ginger loves to run in the yard and would enjoy some yard playtime with her human family. Her favorite pastime is playing tug of war to get some energy out. She is medium energy so will need daily exercise of yard play time or brisk walk/run. She will chase a toy or ball and bring it back but not always drop it for fetch.
Behavior issues? She gets very excited when people come to the house and will still jump on them to get attention until they pet her. She can also be pushy with wanting attention. She only barks when someone is in the yard or at the front door. She will obey when told to stop when it is other dogs next door. She likes to lick but will stop when asked to do so. Ginger can get overstimulated when out in public, over-excited when seeing other dogs, sometimes people, and this can impact her leash walking. She needs more exposure to the world to curb this excitement and a family who can be patient with her.
Medical issues? No known medical issues.
Skills? She waits to get on the couch or bed until given permission to do so. She sits and waits for permission. She can sit, shake and sometimes lay down. She can wait and stay if she is not over excited by a person at the door. She wants to have the attention.
Special/endearing things? She sits upright beside her foster mom on the couch and watches T.V. She likes to snuggle. She puts her paw or head on you. She wiggles her butt while wagging her tail when she is excited to see humans. She is a very loving girl and she seeks affection from people and she really loves getting attention. She is very content in a home and will shower her family with love.
Ideal home? Ginger's ideal home would be with adults and some older kids that can play tug of war with her or adults that have time to play with her. An active home would be best because she is still young and would enjoy walks. She likes to sleep with her human on the bed so a home who will allow her to be a true member of the family, couch time, etc...would be ideal. Ginger would need a fenced back yard where she can run around and play.
