My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Laser. Laser is a Pointer that is approximately 2 years old and was rescued from a Southern California shelter. She is vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and heart worm negative. This is a very sweet and loving dog, she just needs a little bit of time to warm up to you.

We don't know if Laser was an indoor dog, but it is unlikely. She is now housebroken and just sits quietly at the back door when she needs to go out. She hasn't quite figured out the doggy door yet, so she will need more training with that if her new owners would like her to use one. She is clean and quiet in her crate, and will hold it all through the night and even while you are at work during the day as long as she gets adequate daily exercise.

Laser is currently living in a foster home and she is very quiet. She has not ever barked when she is loose in the yard and rarely barks in the house or in her crate. The only times she does feel it necessary to voice her opinion is when she is eating and the elderly dog tries to paw at her crate and beg for food. (Who can really blame her for this one?!) The other time she barks is a single time in the morning when she first hears the other dogs running down the hall from the bedroom. When she is in her crate she will bark one time as if to say "Don't forget to let me out too!!" Other than that she makes no noise at all.

This doggy loves her toys! She doesn't know how to play fetch yet but she enjoys carrying a toy around in her mouth and is often found in the yard on her back with a toy in her front feet or mouth playing happily by herself. She loves to play tug of war with her doggy friends. If there is any holes in a toy, she will try and decapitate it and rip the stuffing out. All normal doggy stuff there!

Laser loves to play with other dogs, but is not a push over. She would probably not allow another dog to take a bone or her food away from her but she likes playing tug with her dog friends. She likes to wrestle and play chase with them too. She would probably do well with a playful male dog as a companion but has girl dog friends as well. It is unknown how she would do with cats. Because of her breed we think that she would be better in a home without small animals or birds/chickens.

She doesn't have any instinct developed to "point" and has a little prey drive towards birds. She tried to chase a chicken in her foster home and stopped immediately with a harsh verbal command. Because she is so sensitive, and she is an adult with most likely no formal hunt training, we suggest an active pet home looking for a companion dog innate of a hunting home.

Laser knows how to sit for a cookie and for attention. She is still learning to be calm in the house but settles down after about 20 minutes if she has a toy to play with. If there is no toy then she will sometimes pace joyfully from room to room. This is an active dog that will need daily walks/runs for exercise. She is still working on coming back when called when she is off leash, but is much better than she was when she first came. She walks with a Balance front clipping harness and she will be adopted out with it. As we said, she is a quiet dog, but she is still not a candidate for apartment living or shared walls houses. This is an active dog and needs a yard for the times when she is not out on her daily walks.

This dog will take a little bit of work before she is perfect, but she is almost there. The good thing is that she is very comfortable in her crate and is good in the yard. She is a fun and very loving dog looking for a home that can appreciate her for her very typical "pointer-ness".

Laser's adoption fee is $200 plus a $10.99 microchip registration fee. Contact us today to learn more about this sweet and sensitive girl.
