Here's what the humans have to say about me:
2 years old | Iranian mutt | Male | 11.5 kg | Shelter dog from Iran
Temperament: Passive, loving, cautious.
Activity level: Low-medium energy.
Vetting: Vaccinated (core vaccines plus Bordetella); 4dx bloodwork negative for heartworm & three tick borne diseases (Ehrlichia/Anaplasma and Lyme); fecal (negative), dewormed; flea/tick/heartworm prevention given; neutered, microchipped, two Leishmania tests completed (April 10 and April 13, 2019) both negative. Has grade 3-4 Luxating Patella’s which can require surgery if causing lameness and/or pain or alternatively can require anti-inflammatories and glucosamine as an alternative/preventative treatment. Also, missing an eye.
Housebroken: Yes! Completely.
Good with dogs: Needs slow and positive interactions.
Good with cats: Not tested.
Prey drive: None noted
Good with children: Not tested. Rhymer is timid and so children would need to be calm and dog savvy.
Separation anxiety: None observed.
Crate trained: Yes- sleeps in his crate at night.
Resource guarding: Resource guards food and toys from other dogs.
Barky/noisy: Relatively quiet, will vocalize if he wants to go out.
Leash etiquette: Great but does like to stop and smell the roses.
Transportation: No issues in car. Not tested on public transit.
*Comes with 6 weeks of pet insurance - $500 coverage.
*Rhymer’s bio may change as we get to know him better.
Rhymer is a CCR first in that he is our first Iranian dog. That's right, this beauty of a pup travelled far and wide to find a perfect home in the great North, and we at CCR will not disappoint him. I mean, look at that FACE! He was taken to a shelter in Iran when his family decided they no longer wanted him. He only has one eye but his other eye is fully functioning. It is important to note that Rhymer has grade 3-4 Luxating Patellas and will likely require surgery down the road and/or anti-inflammatories and supplements. Any potential adopter will need to commit to making sure that Rhymer is given the opportunity to have the surgery should a vet deem it necessary in the future.
Rhymer is a timid dog, taking in his surroundings and cautiously exploring people and places. Think of him as the kind who would rather dip his toe in the water and get in slowly versus the type that cannonballs in right away. Because of this he needs the right person to be patient and guide him through all the new experiences so that he can enjoy them!
Once he's sized you up, he is a very sweet boy who will give you all the cuddles.
He can be especially timid with men, so while we encourage all to apply, men should take note that if it's not a good fit, it's a "it's not you, it's me" scenario and not take it to heart! He is currently in a foster home with a man and is doing well, so it's a definite possibility.
He's a great walker and really likes to smell and explore on walks, as well as greet passersby gently. He enjoys long leisurely strolls, but in general is not a hyperactive dog. He enjoys the company of other dogs when they've met positively, but would be best suited with dog that's energy levels match his own. He would do best with another dog in his forever home to keep him happy and stimulated. However, he does resource guard food and some toys from other dogs but this can be managed through basic training and feeding separately.
A relatively quiet home would be well suited for Rhymer so that he can get a break from all the stimulation a day out in Toronto can bring about!
