My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Smokey Joe is a 13-year-old neutered male black lab. Smokey Joe weighs 105 pounds and is up to date on shots. Smokey Joe is bonded with Princess Anne and the two must be adopted together.

NOTE: Why adopt a bonded pair? Double the laughs, double the love, and definitely double the fun. But the most important reason is saving 2 lives is better than one. Smokey and Princess are still waiting patiently to find their forever home.

SO STINKIN ADORABLE! Princess is the most loving dog ever! She is one of those dogs that when you look in her eyes they are beaming with love and loyalty. She literally just wants to love you. The minute you lower yourself to the floor or couch level she has her head or paws in your lap for snuggle time. Smokey is a big lug who has taken a little longer to get comfortable and learn to love and trust. He always gives kisses and has an awesome lab lean. For the first time last week, he came up on the couch and plunked his HUGE head in his foster's lap for 1/2 hour while she was on the phone. Initially, he would snooze or hang out in various rooms of the house. Now, he is always with the family and will get up and move to be with us when we shift rooms. These dogs are so grateful for human attention and affection and they return it tenfold. They love each other, but they really love their people.

Foster Smokey is always a perfect gentleman and has excellent manners in the house! No countersurfing for this guy….until he spotted a tote full of tennis balls. It was just too hard to resist! This ball chasing boy and his pretty sister Princess have been patiently waiting to find a family that will spoil them with squeaky balls, snuggles, and soft spots to relax. Despite the recent transgression, this pair is perfect in the house. They are very polite when greeting guests and always mind their manners in the kitchen. They love to give kisses and lay in your lap, and just want to be close to their people.

They are good with dogs and cats and approved for kids 10 and up. They don't need a fenced yard and would do well in a single family home, townhome, or apartment. If your idea of a relaxing afternoon is lounging around with a pair of labs in your lap, then Princess Anne and Smokey Joe are a perfect fit for you! These best buddies are bubbling over with affection and they can’t wait to find a cozy lap to call their own. When they’re not laying in your lap, they love to fetch tennis balls and take short walks.

PRINCESS AND SMOKEY HERE!

Foster mom went on vacation so we did too! Now we're back and time to unpack our tennis balls. We had a great time at our vacation foster home. We got to go to some neighborhood parties and we even helped supervise a litter of foster puppies that came for a short visit. Our favorite part of the vacation was the teenagers! They would rub our ears and scratch our bellies and throw tennis balls for us in the yard! Sometimes we had to wait until lunchtime for them to wake up, but they were really fun to play with. We're happy to be back with foster mom, but we're still hoping that someone out there has a permanent place in their heart and their home for us.

We are an easy pair that just continues to demonstrate how adaptable and easy going we are. From 10 days living in a hotel to 3 weeks with a vacation foster, we make ourselves at home and adapt to new people and places easily. All we need is a yard with some tennis balls and some people to love and snuggle!

UPDATE: Princess Anne and Smokey Joe are so amazing. They are easy to care for and are far from couch potatoes. They LOVE chasing tennis balls in the back yard and are ALWAYS ready to go out back and fetch balls - again and again. They also really enjoy going for walks and are great on the leash. Princess Anne is a bit more wobbly in the back legs from arthritis, but both walk very well around the neighborhood. That said, they do need a home with minimal steps. Princess Anne really can't handle a full flight of stairs, but is fine with a few steps. Smokey Joe can go up and down the steps - he gets so excited when it's time to go outside that he will sometimes stumble down the stairs:) Because he is very big, strong and simply a clumsy guy, it may be best for him not to be with anyone that could be knocked down easily. He is sweet and gentle, just strong and knocks into things/people here and there:)

Both dogs are as loving as they are playful. Princess is the most affectionate and will snuggle up in your lap if you sit anywhere close to her. Smokey is more into giving kisses and lab leaning in when you pet him. They are good at sit and stay, great with the resident labs and kids, and have good house manners. They have poked into the garbage a few times, but it is kept in a closed pantry most of the time. They have only been on the couch when the kids have invited them up. They really are total joys and make us laugh every day. Their foster's son has a blast with them!
