4/15/19 – Joey’s previous owners were an elderly couple that unfortunately got sick and have been unable to take care of Joey for a couple of months. It is uncertain whether his previous family would be able to take care of him when they got better, so the extended family decided it would be in Joey’s best interest to find him a new family. For the first months his family was away he stayed at the home and someone just came in once a day to give him food and water. It could be that or the fact that his family was always with him previously, but Joey has a bit of separation anxiety. He barks when his people leave. Sometimes he does this most of the time they are gone and sometimes it is only for a little while. We are unsure if he will get over this given what he has been through over the past several months. Also, with him being left in the house and not taken out regularly and the fact that he was just neutered at a later age, he does have tendency to pee in the house. He has been wearing belly bands at his foster home and does not have an issue with them and he will potty outside when he goes out. He has not had any issues with his foster brothers and sisters, but does tend to prefer people over the other pups. He came from a home that had dogs, cats, and birds. He has been around a bird in his current foster home and did not even care that it was there. Joey loves his people and would do great with other animals in the home too. Given his separation anxiety it would probably be best for him to be with someone that is home a good portion of the time to keep his stress level down until he can maybe get better with his separation anxiety.
