Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Toby is the last of the 6 boy puppies that ADR.org rescued from the MOHAVE shelter in CA.
Each puppy looks different, and the mom at the time of birth was very young (< 1yr). Her name is MAYA and she is posted as well.
Toby (aka Butterball) is about 6 month old, fully vaccinated, and microchipped but not yet neutered because his testicles have not gone down yet.
Toby is very smart, quite energetic on occasion, always up for "trouble (just kidding), inquisitive, can entertain himself well and needs continuous training on boundaries. Assertive, audible voice commands work best for him. He needs to be put into a state of mind of focusing on you to listen and understand.
So if you have children - this would be an additional child that needs boundaries-practice. And the future adopter has to be aware of it.
If you have an older dog that will set the "dog rules" for TOBY - would be ideal.
He is almost putty trained and only had one accident at the very beginning. But if you miss out the signs of body language (he gets very antsy) telling you that he has to go out, then he cannot be blamed.
He lives, runs and plays with three other dogs and is good around cats. On occasions he cannot resist to chase - but that is playful and can be stopped immediately through a firm recall.
He still sleeps in a big wire crate next to his mother but he is very independent from her. Still nothing is better to wrestle with her in his mind.
I would like to see Toby in a home with a firm structure/daily routine and one running partner or someone that does dedicate enough quality time to burn off his energy outside.
Toby is not (yet) an off leash candidate.
He will make the right person/home very happy.
For more information, and scheduling an initial phone screening call please contact the owner of ADR.org by sending an email to ADR@animaldefenserescue.org.
The rescue is located on Orcas Island. Adoption fee is $375.
