My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beau Dacious is only a puppy at 1 year old who barely weighs 5 lbs pounds. He is being fostered in Lighthouse Point, FL.

UPDATED BIO 04/07/2019: Beau Dacious has adapted quickly to his new foster home. He has been fully vetted and is ready for his forever home; his weight was only 4-1/2 lbs when he came into rescue, and his ideal weight would be 6 lbs. His foster parents have found that Beau is a devoted and loving pet who absolutely adores people. Because he is still a young puppy, he has a very high energy level and needs to be attended to or played with until he takes one of his “cat naps” and then starts all over again. He barks a lot right now and his foster parents are working with him on this, but at this time, that is how he communicates - he barks when he is playing and excited, when he wants to go out or get attention, when he sees danger from other animals, including animals he passes when he is out walking, and when he is left alone or in small enclosed spaces.

Beau is mostly house-trained and knows he needs to go outside to do his business and does very well when he taken on repeated walks. He loves exploring outside and likes to investigate the backyard in his foster home. Beau is considered a runner, meaning that he is an escape artist who will jump out the front door and slip through small spaces in a fence or under a gate. His foster parents are working with him on the “stay” command, which will need to be reinforced in his forever home. He is a chewer and will chew on toys and shoe straps and anything that fits into his mouth – just like all puppies. Beau alternates constant movement with his naps. He does not like to sleep in and wants you to get up as well once he is up.

Beau has adjusted to the two resident dogs in his foster home, but gets along best with the little yorkie who also loves to play. However, the twelve-year-old doggie finds him annoying most of the time, although will sometimes jump into the dog games. Beau tends to be a bit aggressive towards unknown animals since he may not have had a lot of contact with other dogs previously, but never aggressive against people. He is too rambunctious to be around small children who he would knock over. He loves to kiss on the face, especially the mouth and will be glad to wake you up that way. Beau is very smart and learns quickly, but he would benefit from some consistent training and would probably do very well if he was enrolled in some Puppy Manners class. Beau has unbelievable amounts of love to give and needs to be in a home which can provide equal love in return.

Here’s what Beau’s perfect home would be:

- This little fella has boundless energy and loves to run around and be playful – a large fenced backyard would be a bonus for this very active little boy. The yard must be “Beau proof”- meaning no small holes or gaps where he can wiggle out – he is sure to find them!

- Beau needs an active family who is able and willing to play and keep up with this adorable bundle of energy. It would be great if he had one stay-at-home parent since he loves being with his person – all the time.

- Beau loves playing with the resident dogs in his foster home, so he would really like to have maybe one or two other dogs who are close to his size and age, who are playful and active like him, and also who are willing to share their humans given Beau’s high need for personal attention.

- Beau’s foster parents will need to arrange “play dates” with potential adopted fur-brothers and sisters, recognizing that this may make a long-distance adoption very difficult.

- Beau is a young dog and needs an active family who can give him at least a 15-year commitment.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of Beau’s small size, he cannot be adopted into a home with children under the age of 14 years old.
