My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JACKIE is SPECTACULAR American Bulldog - he is a very young, 14 months old, neutered and vaccinated and healthy as a horse! He is also a PUREBRED DOG WITH ALL OF HIS PAPERS! (But he is in RESCUE now, why? read on!)

Our rescue has NEVER had a dog as magnifiscent as this in our forty years of rescue!

He is a real HEAD TURNER! If you want the neighbors and friends to be jealous THIS IS YOUR DOG!

He is still in the home of his original owner (we prefer he transitions straight to his permanent adopter and not go through the traumas of foster homes!) Ideally YOU (the successful adopter applicant) will be a strong, patient, kind owner who owns their home with a good size fenced yard. (no small kids nor other pets.) We prefer an adopter who is experienced with American Bulldogs or breeds with a similar size and personality (GS, Rottys, Pibbles, etc)

While Jackie is not yet fully dog friendly so with standard muzzle training he will progress quickly because this is a smart, SMART REALLY SMART DOG.

JACKIE easily learned multiple commands - but has not had the kind of training this breed requires (see below) as a puppy, so now he needs positive training, starting with training by a reputable, professional trainer. (We can recommend at least THREE outstanding trainers in San Diego County!) Lets get everyone started on the road to SUCCESS!

BUT OMG IS JACKIE SOOOOOWORTH IT!!!

Once he enjoys the the training he needs with you, he will be not just beautiful but an ALL ROUND SPECTACULAR DOG.

WHY IS THIS AMAZING DOG IN RESCUE? Because the current owners 11 year old daughter is scared of him, he can be dominant so needs the right kid of training that this busy family does not have the time for.

Prospective adopters, please RSVP with your PHONE NUMBER and the BEST TIME TO CHAT (so that we dont have to play phone tag!)

Here is MORE about the AWESOME AMERICAN BULLDOG from the site:

This breed was recognized by the UKC (United Kennel Club) in 1999 under the 'Working' category.

American Bulldogs are taller dogs than their English ancestors. They're confident, versatile and athletic and can be seen in many different settings today.

Can be working dogs and cattle drovers, excel in weight-pulling competitions, and are reliable protectors of the home.

As the breed developed, two distinct 'types' appeared - each one nurtured and encouraged by the original US breeders Alan Scott and John Johnson.

The 'Scott' type of American Bulldogs (also known as the 'Standard' type) is lighter, with a narrower muzzle. The 'Johnson' (also known as the 'Bully' or 'Classic' type) are overall heavier, more muscular and with a shorter muzzle.

More About The American Bulldog Breed

Report this ad

Bulldogs were originally bred in England, for the sport of bull-baiting, and were working dogs, also used to catch livestock and guard property.

Sometimes American 'bullys' are confused with the Pitbull breed, but although they ARE both 'bully breeds' they are quite different.

This is a charismatic, powerful and self-confident breed - hardy and strong. Able to drive cattle and hogs, help with the hunt or protect house and home.

He's calm and affectionate with his family and people, usually good with children, but can wary of strangers. A protective and fearless breed.

Is often very loving with children but does need to be socialized to them early. Has a high prey drive and often doesn't do well with other smaller pets unless introduced to them at a very young age. Can be dog aggressive, but with basic muzzle training can do well.
